Anyone else here instinctually work the throttle with their thumb and index finger, while working brake with middle and ring finger? Brake covered nearly all the time.

I feel I have more fine motor control over the throttle this way versus moving index and middle finger back and forth from throttle to brake lever.

Seems all the other racers I know as well as youtube content creators all use index and middle fingers.

I would rather my stronger fingers, index and middle be used for the braking. I tried the middle finger/ring finger brake thing and didn't like it.

Same here without covering the brake all the time.

LOL...this is the video that got me thinking about it and questioning my grip. In all other respects I'm following advice given except for my use of the middle fingers vs the index/middle.

And I take back what I said about constant brake cover...monitored myself today on the street and it just seems like I'm covering a lot because I'm conscious of doing it in traffic.

I have relatively small hands also and the reach with the middle 2 finders is more natural because my index isn't terribly long and the middle and ring mate better with the lever contour. Tried adjusting the lever closer to the grip and it ruins the brake feel completely. Feels like I'm going to bottom it out...like it needs a bleed. Maybe I just need to give it a more genuine try.

Next time I ride (it's raining all day today) I'll look closer...I may actually brake with the ring finger and pinky only, but I probably have the middle finger on there too. Weird how it's difficult to picture it without actually doing it lol.

Street is different, you need to cover because that 1/2 sec to get your fingers over may be the difference between getting hurt or not. I used to ride not covering but retrained myself and now it feels natural both ways.

Very true.
