So doing some research here and and curious about the differences between the 1299 twin and the V4 when it comes to the electronics. Are there any differences? Are the Traction control, launch control, shifters the same? different? better? Worse? Are there software updates for the older models?

pretty sure the V4 has newer generation of everything... traction, slide, ABS, etc...

Yeah I red what was on the Ducati site. I guess I looking for a real world comparison to determine if the V4 is worth it. On paper it seems to, but is there a difference to real world riders? or are the improvements only noticeable to a small few who extract the absolute maximum the bike has to offer?

What are your plans for the bike (street, track)? That might make a difference as I think the V4 may be an easier bike to ride as speed. There are those that like the twin character as it feels more abrupt at times.

Im a track day guy/ spirited canyon rider. Had in line 4s and V/ L twins. had a tricked out 996 back in the day. Current ride is an RC51. I'm debating on the 1299 twin Vs the V4. While the V4 makes more top end HP, most people will never see/ use that. The twin makes more torque in the lower more usable rev range but is older. The V4 is obviously newer but cost a bit more. So there in lies my dilemma.

I have both the 1299SA and the V4 Speciale. Last fall I got out for a back to back ride on both and hit the same roads. I can tell you for me on the street the 1299SA does it big time! The torque down low is amazing and the bike just feels raw like a Dodge Viper. The V4 is much more refined and sophisticated. I'm sure on the track I would be faster with the V4 but there's something about how edgy the 1299 feels that make me feel like she could kick my ... at anytime. :D

I still have my '02 RC51. I love that twin torque; however, you should test ride a V4. The top end rush is otherworldly!

Bit of an unfair comparison really but the V4 electronics are a different level over the 1299. Sure in terms of control they seem similar but if you compare the dash/menus on models with the electronic suspension and just general use then the V4 wins hands down as its a much easier platform to use.

As the gentleman already said, go ride one.
