Ok... I guess I should be prepared to get flamed here...but here goes...:)

Living in Texas means that finding nice roads on which to ride means traversing some slab to get there..... now I don't currently have the luxury of a trailer... so a lot of miles on my tyres are of a "touring" nature.... so....Does anyone have a suggestion on a tyre that has great mileage capabilities on the centre but will still handle nicely when needed??? I know this is either an oxymoron or a huge compromise.... But I know there's a huge pool of knowledge out there and I wondering if I am missing something??? FYI I have used Q3s as well as SPs..... Max mileage has been around 3500.... Road temps here in the summer are of the order of 140 plus... I know given Temp/power/stickiness combo this equals rapid wear..But hey its a quiet night so I thought I would ask....

You're banned.

But for real. When I had my 848 I used Michelin 2CTs and they were awesome because I am basically in the same situation you're in. Too bad it only comes in a 190.

2 of my last 3 bikes were on Pilot Power 2CT's. Center tire has a harder compound and the outer edges are softer and provide more grip during corners. Does take a bit to warm up but then again they will last more than 3500 miles. I had 6000+ miles on my 2006 zx6r on those specific tires when I sold it and I only had 3000 miles on those tires on my 2010 675 when I sold it but they were barely showing signs of wear. Great tire overall. Worth a try but with the deals that keep popping up on the Q3's, may just be worth it to deal with replacing those with another set of Q3's.

Also, you can get a set of Q3's for the price of the rear supersports.

Quit your moaning.
Your choice is logical.

Move to where the riding roads are:eek:

I have them on my BMW. Near Pirelli Supercorsa SP V2 grip, but they last much longer. My friend who rides much harder than me got 7000 miles out of a set on a 2012 GSX-R1000. I love them and will probably put them on my 1199 when the time comes. The only negative thing is they don't have the same level of feel as the Pirelli's.

What about the BSB V2? A friend of mine usually use them in place of the Pirelli SP V2...he says that they are cheaper and last a little bit longer. In any case..even the SP V2 are realized with an harder compound in the middle

You might try Rosso Corsas. They come in a multi-compound 200/55 rear, and still have all the grip you need for the street. As noted, no high-mileage tire is going to have the grip and feel of something suitable for extended track use, but the DRC is positioned as the next step towards being more street oriented and should prove a bit more durable than than SP's or probably Q3's (which last me about the same as the SP's). Rosso II is the next one over, but only has a 190/55 rear.

I tried some Conti Road Attacks on a previous sportbike I owned for the same reason, and they performed pretty much as expected. Bit less grip than ideal when you're really playing, but still quite OK to sport it up on with a click or so of additional restraint, and probably 25-30% longer life as payback.

You going to think im crazy but i just put a set of michelin pilot road 3 on my Mv agusta brutally I used those tire on my MTS1200 for the last 6000 miles on the interstate and I tell you one think those tire got some grip I when to the tail of the dragon last year and I was taking turn like nobody business. On the bruttaly the feel just fine.

600 cc bike don't eat tire that much my 848 was give me 5000 miles per set but my 1198 same tire I was lucky if i get 3000, my 1199 average is 2000 miles per set I alway replaced F/R at the same time.

I wore the centre out of my rear SuperCorsa in 11500 KMS due to long straight roads. The wear indicator said I had 3mm of tread but it was down to canvas. I went for a harder in the centre dual compound Avon Cobra on the rear and have a Pirelli Angel GT for the front. I've only done about 1000 KMS so far but I expect to get 20000 plus from the rear. The Angel GT isn't on yet but the reviews were good for mileage. On the few available twisty roads the Avon handles well to within 1/4" of the tyre edge. I haven't felt it sliding around. Both are available from Rocky Mountain MC/ATV or Jake Wilson. They took 3 days to get from the USA to AUS. The hardest part was getting the rear wheel nut undone.

You are not crazy! Although not available in the 200 size, the pilot road is a great tire.
To be honest the Pilot Road 4 has the most advanced tire technology from Michelin. The Pilot Road 4 will perform better than the Pilot Road 3 and just as well as the Pilot Power 3 for most of us on the street.

I can report on the diablo rosso corsas on my panigale, all street use.
The rear tire doesn't feel, wear, or grip any different than the stock SPs. The front, however, while it feels the same is wearing much better than the SPs. In defense of the rear tire, I pretty much ride like I'm trying to destroy it. So it's no surprise to me that it's not lasting longer than it is.
I'm 1500 miles into a set of corsas and I'm already counting down the miles I have left on the rear (500 or so) which I intend to replace and keep the front tire.
The upshot here is that at replacement time I'll be buying a less costly tire, and only a rear instead of both. So that's something.

Interesting.....Any ideas what the difference between the Pilot Road and Pilot Road GT??

Pilot Road 4 is a touring tire and would probably last you at least an oil change, but the grip is very mediocre.

Pilot Road 4 GT is designed for heavier bikes and has a stiffer sidewall. One customer who got a GT by mistake asked me to change it two weeks later because it felt awful to her on her Multistrada. No grip issues, just handled poorly in general.

As to the Pilot Supersport being a track day tire and not working well on the street....depends on how you ride on the street. Michelin do list it as a track day/street tire. I think they do just fine. Heat up quickly. No cycling problems. Priced right. Don't preach until you've tried it.

The PR4 is designed for Sport Touring Types; the GT version has a stiffer casing designed for heavier "sport touring" bikes. Don't be fooled by the Term Sport Touring or GT...these tires are very capable of handling more assertive riding.

As you know there are not alot of 200 series tires available. I think some forum guys went down to the 190 series on their Panigale's... I'm not sure why or what specific tires but it's worth asking about.

Keep in mind you're on a 190hp motorcycle. Tire pressure, throttle control and load capacity are important.
Furthermore, I don't think many of us could out ride the capabilities our motorcycles or the tires we install on them....we just make mistakes that get us into trouble.

No preaching here...........

I think you are already getting good mileage out of your tyres and the best bang for the buck with the q3 I think you will be hard pressed to beat that overall package
