Tyre (Tire) predicament

This tire was built to be a track day tire and will not perform as well on street conditions.

That is one odd comment.
I have been using power one (previous incarnation) and power supersports (current incarnation) for our 848 and 600 for both track and fast road ride, as well as commuting, and both has been and still is performing very nicely in all situation, including damp fast road and wet commuting.

In most situation, it even allows for knee-on-the-ground on damp ROAD, and that is while staying within your lane too.

Wears a lot better than supercorsa on the track too. One pair even lasted over 3000kms on the 600, with half of that spent lapping the track within 10% of top racer lap times.

The feel is not as communicative as supercorsa, but i'd rate it one of the best tyres I've ever used, and far superior than pirelli Rosso or Bridgestone S20 line (well, not exactly the same class).

Have you tried them before? I'd be interested in how you think it performs weak on the road. Was the pressure suitable for the road (which is different from track).

P.s. We do not run tyre warmers. We simply ride to the track, screw things off, have a blast, screw things back on, then ride it home.

That's my experience in a nutshell. I, too, have run Power 1 and Power Cup on the Panigale. The 1s and Cups are a bit stickier than the Supersports in my experience, but they're pricier, too. No issues on the street running 32 psi front and 28 psi rear.

Chill boyz!! It's a FACT, Not an odd comment. The Power Super Sport is intended for track use according to Michelin. Yes it heats up quickly, however you have to maintain that heat for the tire to work properly. Therefore, if you can do that it will work just fine...if you are commuting and in stop and go traffic there are probably better options. The OP was regarding a tire that can offer decent mileage for the commute to the motorcycle friendly roads.

Michelin says the Power Super Sport are designed for 50% street, and 50% track days. Have you ridden on them yet? I think that if you did, you'd change your opinion. They're aces.

The Michelins on my 848 were absolutely the best tires ever.

The Supercorsa that come stock on the Pani are damn fine too. It would be a hard call in my opinion to figure out which one is better.

Might have to take the plunge next summer.

I am not arguing with Michelin's brochure, the primary design for Power Supersports is for the track. But as stated in my post, the grip for road rising is fine, and the longevity (including track and road) is among typical road tyres.
Still not sure why you said it won't work for the road, unless it is only your opinion and you have never tried it yourself? Or you had a bad experience? Please do share.

As a side shoot to this does anyone use the Battlax S20 or evo version, I need for my 749 and in Ljubljana it seems there are limited stocks of tyres and would have to special order, ye I know!!!! but they have the S20 and would welcome an opinion or two, I have the old Dragon Corsa on and they are bit bold.
If there is anyone from Lj reading this let me know if there is a place that has a variety of tyres here.

Several of us have run S20's on our 1199's, myself included. Was planning to put some Evo's on for the upcoming Fall season, but they're not out in the states yet and no one seems to know anything about availability here. So I can't speak to the Evo's, but the non-Evo S20 is a good tire for street use. They warm up super-fast, work well in cool and/or damp weather and have enough grip to drag just about anything short of your elbow. Softer carcass than a Dunlop and like a little more air pressure as a result, but I tend to like that softer feel at street pace since you're not putting as much force into the tires as you would on a track. They're fine for the occasional track day as well. They don't last any longer than the OEM Pirellis though, if as long. the Evo's are supposedly a bit stiffer in construction up front and with a longer wearing center compound in back, but I can't verify that. Wouldn't hesitate to put a set on, though.

2014-09-04 15.16.37.jpgBought a set (evo), had a quick spin out, felt very nice, its hard to tell if they are better than the Pirelli as mine were too shagged out and remember them when new, and the 1199 is different altogether to ride with the supercorsas,

Love the pireli sp`s, just running the Dunlop Q3`s imported from America a really good tire great feed back grip and wearing really well so far, imported a few sets got one to sell in uk if anyone interested, spoke to Dunlop uk r&d guy really helpful, but in Europe they are trying to push the sportsmart!

Managed to get 5500km out of my OEM Pirellis, yes they are like slicks, awesome tyre, still are but no tread now doesn't help in the wet, however just ordered from Jake Wilson a set of Q3's to try out, half the price of Supercorsa in NZ and $250 cheaper than the Q3's are here, will give feedback once fitted and have done a few rides, hopefully they are as good as everyone else says they are.

Did you know that the Michelin Supersport come in 200/55-17?

Yes, I did some research and talked to a few guys as to what they have used, the Q3's appeared to be best bang for my buck. In New Zealand motorbike tyres have always been expensive, hence why I went off shore this time, even my usual tyre guy said buy them at that price!!!

I've spent an hour reading posts about tires, and still can't decide on what the best tires are for me. Most of my riding is freeway commuting, so I don't care nearly as much about track/twisties performance as do many on this forum.

Q3s are affordable and many riders are happy with them. They are said to last longer than OEM, too. But they're still a really sporty tire, no?

2CTs are the original dual-compound tire, but doesn't that also mean they use outdated technology?

My rear needs replacing, and most of its wear is in the middle. I'd love to read your input, including as to whether going to 190s would make any meaningful difference.

Tried out the Battlax S20 evo's yesterday on the 749 bout 300 miles, I would not be scared to have them on the 1199, I did find that flipping It seemed to take more effort but the grip was fantastic, we will see how they wear.

For everyday commuting and freeway use, I'd suggest mounting a pair of Michelin PR4's. If you're not focused on having a ton of grip at high lean angles and speeds, they'll last a lot longer than any of the tires most people run on their Panigales, still have plenty of grip for fun on curvy roads at reasonable speeds, and yes, the 190/55 will be fine. Considering your stated usage I doubt it will be a problem, but if you find the TC is too active with the 190 on back just turn it down a click or two.
