Uh oh....I kind of want a Harley Night Rod

I said earlier I was mad at Porsche for colaborating with a non-race bike, but I might enjoy riding it just knowing that. I think it is frowned on by the other Harley riders, kinda like the under-seat exhaust/dry clutch Ducati guys think of ours :D

Same thoughts here Trauma. Both on it being kind of cool that Porsche designed the engine. And it being snubbed by the 'true' Harley guys.

Pettiness rules the day on every scene I guess... The purists dictating what is a true Harley, ducati, brand, etc...

On a side note, I think my 'commuter' is looking more & more like the new Tard. :)

I lived through it 30 years ago when I joined the local Porsche clunb. The 356 guys looked down at the 911s, the 911's looked down at the water-cooled 928/9844s (now the 911 is water cooled). I wasn't ver active when the Cayenne was introduced, I can only imagine.

I think that would be a perfect commuter, but at only 20 mins 95% highway, I still love riding my Pani for that ;)

I thought about getting a 'tard for my commuter as well, but I am leaning toward a BMW at the moment. I go back and forth on it.

Had sport bikes for several years, then went to a 1998 Harley Fat boy to stay out of trouble.

I did stay out of trouble....pretty much stopped enjoying riding and after 15 years in the garage it was finally sold last year with around 2000 miles on it. Now there were complications like marriage and five kids thrown in but if I was having fun I would have made time to ride.

Luckily it made room for the 1199r, a cbr600, and 4 dirt bikes (all in the last 3 months). At this point I'd rather ride a dirt bike than the Harley. Riding in traffic is too much risk and not enough reward/fun on the Harley for me. And you can't go fast enough to get away from idiots.

The v-rod has plenty of power for street riding to get away from idiots. .. Not sure what the power ratings of the v-rod are, but it is plenty powerful for street riding and has quite a bit of torque as well . . My issue with the Harley's was always after riding a sportbike and then being limited to like 30degrees of lean on a HD (at least on the v-rod, no idea what the lean limit is/was on a fatboy anymore)

I wonder if I had something like a Harley if I would not feel the need to speed so much when just commuting. The panigale makes me want to go >100mph every time you throw a leg over it...lol. It's really hard to show restraint and try and go the speed limit on that thing.

I test rode the hypermotard some weeks back. It was a base model with a termi. Too much fun! Turns on a dime. Really nice motor. It would be a great commuter for NYC if you know what I mean. Which bmw(s) are you looking at?

The G650GS. I've got a SF now, but she's getting up there in the mileage department and they don't make the big one anymore so I have a bit of a dilemma on my hands. Hyper, baby SF, BMW, Harley (thrown in just to avoid hijacking the Harley thread, but not really being considered), other Japanese bike.

my 2010 SF (1098) had 24K miles on it before I just recently put it up for sale. So it goes up in mileage without too many issues. ..

Hey, that's about where mine is. :) I can't see putting another 24k on it though without it living in the shop a good bit of the time. Who knows, maybe I'm being a worry wart.

i really used to want a V-rod to add to the sport bike but I think if i wanted a cruiser I would just find a diavel....

they look so good they lean and at least appear comfortable...i need to go ride my dealers demo....

I have always loved the Vrods and Night rods.
I've been riding for 3 years and years ago before I was a rider I always thought if I did I would get a Vrod.
Well I bought a Monster instead and since then have owned 8 bikes.
I bought a sliver Vrod not long ago for a good price.
Got on it and first impression I LOVED it! So much so I thought "I'm gonna sell this silver one a get a really nice Night Rod and keep it for a while"
But then I rode it around a bit more and couldn't get over how vulnerable I felt on it.
Slower to turn, heavier, the brakes not as good and what really got me is with my foot so far forward I just felt like if I did go down my leg would be trapped under that heavy bike.
My Multi and 1199 are so quick feeling.....Maybe just what I'm used too.
I'm not knocking the bike, it was awesome. Just not for me.

I think the standard FB is less than 30 degrees.
If you remove the foot boards and change to pegs you get a few more degrees to play with, and it sort of works out right for the FB.

I personally went with the VRSCR which has about 40 degrees of lean angle and the 1130 cc Revolution engine.
If i remember correctly it was the first Revolution engine to have more power at about 122 hp. All due to the exhaust.
When on the dyno she actually puts out 93 hp at the rear wheel, with the sweetest power and torque curves you could wish for. It's a beautifull ride:):)

Has anybody seen the video about the making of the V-Rod?
It's very informative, and gives an insight into how much work was put into the Revolution engine at the porsche facility in Germany:)

Cheers

Can you post the link, too lazy to look for it :)

I had the V-rod muscle. I think its lean angle is probably around 35. I do know with the V-H competition pipe, the right side lean angle dropped less than the left. . . But yeah, I was always dragging the peg protector pins and the pipe on the right when I had it.. .

Sport bikes have been my first love and always will be. But I like motorcycles period. I've had a couple Harley and they didn't leak a drop of oil unlike my 998SFE. First time I rode a Harley I found myself smiling doing 35 mph. You can't explain it, you just have to try it. I had a '98 Heritage Springer and a '00 Road Glide.

This one was my favorite. A hardtail we built from the ground up. It wasn't a bar hopper. I put plenty of 300+ mile days between Oregon Washington Idaho Montana and South Dakota on it. It sat to low to lean but I loved the ride.

PS : no matter how much money you dump into a Harley their always slow. My 80" motor took this bike to 11:30's in the quarter. Sloooow.
