Uh oh....I kind of want a Harley Night Rod

For a commuter bike I would look at a Diavel, BMW R1200R, or that new Honda CB1100. Great all around bikes. They all handle pretty well too. Don't like the speed limiter on the CB (115mph).

Can you post the link, too lazy to look for it :)

Sorry Trauma, i don't have a link and i wouldn't know how to do it if i did:eek:
I do have a burnt copy of a DVD though made for me at my request back in 2006 by my local Harley dealer.
They used to play it in the show room on the plasma screen TV.

If i remember correctly according to old work coleagues it was also on pay TV. Maybe the Discovery Chanel?

I think i have seen it on Youtube a few years ago as a 4 part series. Maybe if you google "Birth of the V-Rod" (that's what the show was called) it will come up for you on Youtube.
There's actually more to the porsche/Harley colaboration story than the Revolution engine project. It goes back to 1984, believe it or not.
Hope this helps:)

Cheers

I had the V-rod muscle. I think its lean angle is probably around 35. I do know with the V-H competition pipe, the right side lean angle dropped less than the left. . . But yeah, I was always dragging the peg protector pins and the pipe on the right when I had it.. .

No way anthem, i reckon it's more like only about 30 degrees;)

Cheers

The collaboration with Porsche on the vrod motor was originally started for Buell then f in Harley f'd Buell over and the engine kept getting heavier for Harley. Bad story about Harley screwing Eric Buell over.

There were a few articles in the bike mags about all that happened. Harley tied Buell's hand on a lot of progress. The Harley dumped Buell he wasn't even allowed to use his own name of Buell to continue. That's why he now uses the long name of Eric Buell Racing. Once again he has taken everything he owns to keep building his vision of motorcycles and racing. Look up the articles if you have time to search. Interesting reading. I'm not a Harley hater as I've stated I've had a few and enjoyed them. I had one Buell before I bought my first Harley. Like John Britten , Eric Buell is a visionary in motorcycle design. A lot of his ideas that used to be laughed at and called ugly are now being used by the other manufacturers. Like the under engine exhaust for mass centralization that's finally caught on. I've only had one Buell back in '97 but its interesting to see what he comes up with and keep tabs on his designs.

I better get my ass to bed. 0500 isn't to far away.

Had a 2008 with a ton of goodies on it.

Loved that bike.

nice that you picked the only harley where porche designed the motor. alot of true blue HD guys don't consider it a because of this HD. +1 on the diavel, I have both and love them, if your serious about the v-rod, ride the diavel, don't just look at it. it's a game changer.

+1 on the diavel. The night rod cant handle worth a damn. Heavy as hell and youll be getting stomped on by 600's immediatley making you regret taking the vrod out and not the panigale but... It is a sick looking bike! I got lots of thumbs up on it and people treated me like i was a "mature" rider. As soon as i got rid of it for my ducati i feel like everyone cuts me off and hates me now lol!

diavel's lighter weight and better handling, and I'd argue that it is better looking. I'm glad HD sells lots of bikes and it looks like they're going watercooled now, only took them decades to adopt this "new" tech! :)

That's what I'm talking about. Beautiful bike! Sorry guys....I find the diavel kinda of fugly.

I added the Diavel to the stable so I can enjoy some riding with my fiance. She attempted to ride with me several times when I purchased the 1199s last year.. I recently updated to the 1199 R and would never consider a passenger so I looked into purchasing a cruiser.. I took out several Harley models including the VRod muscle. I just couldn't do it.. After riding the Diavel, I was sold... You have a sport bikes power and light weight wrapped in a cruiser body...... Fun to ride on both short and long distances.. Take them both out on test rides before signing on the dotted line :).......

Good luck on your decision..

Get the Diavel. Superfast, looks badass, better handling. Put a set of Termis on it w/o baffles. I traded my M109R for a 2012 red carbon fiber Diavel and love the bike.

It looks ok but I think I'd rather get a Diavel

Good idea on the surface...until you realize Harley guys will be talking to you. At least they keep all their stupid questions to themselves when they see you on a Panigale and you can keep things to a friendly appreciation of MCs in general. I have GREAT friends with Harleys, and nothing against fellow MC riders, I just don't want to be asked endless questions about chrome and rear brake mods all day when I stop for gas. :)
