V4 Speciale (#56) vs Final Edition (#122) - pics

Guys, I was trying my best to wait for the R to come out but took the v4s for a test ride and couldn't resist. #56 will hold me over until the R arrives. Akra exhaust goes on in a couple weeks. Only 20 miles so far but the bike is amazing.

So here's the question - is it better than the FE with the full Akra race exhaust??

The FE with this system is ferocious. There is no other way to put it. Not just the sound, but also how quickly it spools up. It hits MUCH harder than the v4 and candidly harder than anything I've ever experienced. And then there is the sound...

The v4s by comparison sounds docile but is buttery smooth. Power delivery is linear and it pulls like a freight train up in the revs. The bike loves to rev and is very happy in the 8-12K range.

It's not a fair comparison since I'm taking it easy on the v4s and it's really restricted at the moment. However, my sense is that I'll be much quicker on the v4. It's so easy to ride fast. That being said, the FE feels more special. And to me, by a wide margin.

Both are beautiful bikes. Which one is prettier is in the eye of the beholder.

Sorry for all the pics, but wanted to fully capture the similarities and differences for those still trying to decide between the twin and new v4.

Cheers!
Kevin
Great review and thanks for your input! I thought the same regarding sound until the full akra was installed... I've got full akra on all 3 bikes and the v4s is by far the loudest when revved. You're going to love it! Enjoy it in good health!

Great pics. Seeing them side by side, (I'm prolly in the minority but) I actually like the look the V4 more, especially the front end.

It's a great looking bike for sure especially from the front. I just love the rear of the FE with the exhaust.

Ditto!

The R is still my fav, I have to admit. It's much more raw, and would punish me if I didn't ride it right. But yet much more rewarding. The V4S is much easier, and I'm much faster on it. But that man and machine cohesiveness type of feel... Can't beat the twins. I'm far from being the fastest around, so I value the "experience" more, if that makes sense.

The v4s is definitely growing on me though. It's a fantastic bike. Better than anything and everything I've ever ridden. Pure engineering marvel for present day. But like anything, there are pros and cons to that. Just that little... Hidden character in the R that makes you pay attention to it when riding it. My mind may change when I get her on the track next month though.

I'm also looking forward to see what the V4R is like. May trade my S in for it next year if the difference is big enough.

One is the end of the line, the end of an era and as such is very special and sorted.

The other is the beginning of an new era, so a difficult comparison.

I actually had to make the decision between these two, had the FE on order and changed when I saw the Speciale V4. I wanted to be part of the V4 new era.

I still have a number of Ducati twins including a Panigale so that also made me move away from the FE. I also thought the Speciale would be a nicer road bike. I am a rider not a collector.

Looking at these photos they are both incredible but the V4 has moved the Panigale design on.

None of these choices would be a bad one. Lucky guy you.

Kevin..... there has to be a 12 step program for what you have! [emoji15]

Very impressive indeed.

Hopefully this new addition over shadows that Old Outdated FE.... I need your wheels and Exhaust
You best contact me First when the time comes. !!!!

You gonna bring some of the girls out to the two day event in July at L/S?

I'm still looking for a cure but unfortunately I think it's terminal!! :D

Definitely consider the exhaust and wheels for the FE. They really transform the bike. It's something special.

I'm thinking of culling back the stable. Too many bikes that don't get ridden. I see some for sales coming up and I'll keep folks posted. I always try and price them to sell quickly! ;)

Haha!! Thanks guys.

No decisions yet. Trying to figure out garage space now.

When I sold my 2015 panigale R I let it go for something like $21 or $22k and it was perfect and probably 20-25% below market at the time. Went to a great forum member. If I do sell anything I’ll do the same but trying to figure out garage space.

Don’t think I’ll be able to part with the really limited ones though.

Stay tuned!

Yeah I remember you sold it just before WSBK and I cried a little (lol) it was such a great deal.

I sold it in anticipation of the upcoming FE which was being revealed that weekend. It went so fast I don't get to see the FE first. It went hours before the pics leaked and when I saw the red wheels I was heartbroken especially since the R was such an incredible bike.

BUT it all worked out in the end. Now the FE is my fav! :D go figure.

Both looking great - thanks for the pictures. Love the looks of the FE exhaust system.

Safe riding to all out on the bike this weekend.
