That's what I'm saying. The days of the limited edition, carbon fiber bodywork bikes like the 998R and 999R are gone. The current "R" models don't have cf bodywork (I'm talking about side fairings, not small stuff like the front mudguard) and are not numbered.

Those were the days when the R was truly special. Days of the old SPS and R superbikes are long gone.

It's just for the show, don't think it's available for sale. Motogp equivalent

Like the exhaust

Just not the blue color

I think "better deal" just depends on you ruse. The "R" wasn't meant to appeal to everyone. Ironically, I'm sure 99 percent of them will never see the track. But it's a better racing platform if that is your goal.

Street bike or normal person doing trackdays goes to the Speciale. Not really hard to figure out and nothing wrong IMHO with Ducati making both. They each serve a purpose. I'm sure in a couple years we will see the SL editions, which will likely be a blending of the R and Speciale based on the 1103 and being a pure terror for either application. They may be able to claim 250hp at the crank with a race exhaust on that one. Which would set the internet on fire. But no need for it now.

I think the majority of owners track their R's it's the same with SL's you just need to go to COTA and there could be as many as 10 SL's at any track day they host.

I just recently picked up a 2015R specifically for track duty and racing.
The engines are better equipted for track day abuse, come with the exhaust, cam profiles, Titanium Crank/Valves, better suspension, and wheels. Not to mention frame.

Yes the Speciale did but I am guessing that it has been a nightmare and was the last one.

Yes, that is what we've been told. Not that someone couldn't change their mind at some point, but with the emissions lawsuit with Harley and the VW "issue" there is zero tolerance for anything that could even perceived as being encouraging the skirting of emissions laws.

You have it reversed.

The R makes less power than the base/S everywhere except way up beyond overrev territory for the base/S. That said, the R has shorter final drive gearing than the base/S so the difference probably won't matter in the real world unless you care about fuel economy.

Also don't forget about how quickly the V4R will rev, the over 2 lbs. lighter crank and titanium rods as well as lighter flywheel will make that thing RIP through the revs regardless of what shows up on a dyno chart.

too bad the price hasn't been reduced to reflect it, essentially the bike is now $45k with exhaust.

I guessed the new V4R would be in the 45k range. I just bought a new 2018 Honda Civic Type R for $44k. I know...that's apples to oranges. Now, back on the subject. Frankly, I love the way the new V4R looks. I would love a chance to ride one at the track and compare it to my 1299S. Peace. Highside49

Yeah MotoRapdi priced it and its $45,600 US converted. So its around 50k+ OTD from new at dealer.

I think to myself, I am making more money as years go by but NOPE, still poor as things get more expensive. :D
