As @cl955 said, it is… until the next one.
I believe the next gen V4 will have a DSSA. Personally, I prefer the look of the SSSA, but there is no arguing that the DSSA is a superior design for racing. I think once Ducati go that direction, they will not turn back again (as they did with the 1098 after the 999).

So I don't think there will be a "next one". Just me guessing, of course.

This is exactly what I was referencing in my previous comment - people probably thought the sssa was gone (never to return) with the 999, but here we are.

I’m also speculating of course. :)

Those people were geniuses. Buying a 998R or 998 Monoposto was a great move considering the abomination that was conceived the following year.

What are the chances Ducati could .... up again with an absolute bomb (in a negative sense) in 2024?

I remember reading a while back that Ducati wanted to follow in Porsche's footsteps with their ever-evolving 911--no radical changes but simply refinement of the existing, successful design with every new generation. It they truly continue with that philosophy, I have high hopes that the next gen Panigale will be a stunner and look/perform even better than the 2023 models (even if it comes with a conventional DSSA)..

;)

Maybe with 2026 being Ducati's 100th anniversary as a company, they will introduce a new bike that year? I'm sure there will be special commemorative editions, etc.

Good thought. I can see it going either way - big debut of a new model to mark the centennial, OR maybe they get more mileage out of a new model in the year or two prior and then releasing a limited edition “centenario” to mark the actual anniversary.

I believe Euro 5+ goes into effect in 2024. I would expect an engine that can meet those emissions req's to be announced in 2023 to be the homolgation special for 2024.

Euro 5 became mandatory for new bikes as of January 1, 202. However, there may be a two year derogation period similar to the implementation of Euro 4.
