So my boy selling his new V4S for 25k with only 200 miles on it. But I have to pay for the transfer and taxes if I buy it. So my question is this a good deal or should I just buy a new one?

well considering that an OTD V4S is about 31-32k, I'd say TAKE IT. I paid about 2k less for my Base NEW.

He’s getting deployed that’s why he have to sell it. I’m just worried about the tax when I transfer it under my name. They might charge me 5k for the taxes and transfer.

Ah - not sure how it works in California, but in Texas you would only pay sales tax on the price you paid (about $1,750 on $25K if you're going to be on the up and up about it; registration would be some insignificant amount). $25K is a very good price ... did he get a military discount?

Edit: Are you taking over his payments and not just purchasing outright?

It retails for $27495 plus the dealer prep , shipping and doc fees so a new one will go for about $28,400 plus tax and registration. So I think 25K is pretty a fair price. Regarding the selling price on paper maybe you could have him write a different number so you dont get hit with a tax of $2215 if say you lived in NY.

We do that all the time in aus in under value the vehicle in transfer papers but can come back on you if you try insure for the real value.

Congrats on the purchase if you get it.

Mind if i ask what the transfer and taxes are about? im in Canada so when you buy from a private sale you dont have to pay tax, you only pay tax if you buy from the dealer

Depends which Province in Canada, in Ontario you pay HST which is 13% even if its a private sale.

So in most cases that defeats the purpose of buying privately since at a Dealer you would be credited that tax towards your next bike.

You do here in bc. You'd pay it when you get the registration changed at the insurance company.
