TO me this bike actually seems like it offers a lot for the money. Unless you are racing the 1103 is better, SL carbon wheels, wings, fender & dry clutch. It also has upgraded calipers, master with remote adjuster with light weight tail. Makes me want to trade in the Speciale.

All that stuff can be put on a base V4 and you'd have money left over to go toward an upgraded non-electronic suspension

I am not sure about that the wheels from Ducati are $10K, clutch $3500 + install, wings $700, fender $350. Now if you go aftermarket yes.
Without seeing it in person and judging only with the info available I believe it's a serendipity. Or simply "a steal" with the rims, tank, exhaust, clutch, and more for less than forty grand:cool:

What we have here is a parts bin special from the Ducati marketing dept, the question is what goodies does 14k over the base get you? At full retail some BST's, a full Akra and Ohlins are under 13k. So you dont get the colors or the clutch but for all intents and purposes you get a bike that is a serious upgrade nonetheless.

If you wanted to match the SP directly, it would be even less money. Forgo the Akra and get the dry clutch conversion, which is 3k or so. Even if you get all the overpriced rizoma bits, it is still significantly less expensive to buy a base model and upgrade to SP spec. I was hoping they'd follow SP tradition and put more original trick parts in there, like a carbon airbox and intake, but it's just DP parts catalogue stuff. Disappointing. Livery is neat, but MotoXP is likely gonna have be selling identical fairings for half the price yesterday.

I'm surprised by the negativity related to this. I've been thinking about a Duc for yrs. I saw this Thursday morning and I called my local dealer as soon as they opened and put down a deposit for the first one they get. The black with the aluminum tank and red stripes just looks perfect. Maybe you could build something similar for the same, or less money, if you're doing your own labor. However, when you decide to sell it in 5-10 yrs ( or whenever you do ), you'll still have nothing more than a base model with some expensive bits thrown at it, for which you'll get pennies on the dollar. Compare this bike to the Speciale or the 916 and I think it's a steal. I look forward to my parts bin special, cant wait.

Slow down my friend how much u gone get in 10-15 years for that?stop.don’t get me wrong I’m getting one too just I’m not buying to put this in my living room I’m gone ride hard and I don’t care.

If you built up a base and kept the oem parts, you could always resell the aftermarket parts and get a decent chunk of the money back. We all know that resale value on all panigales suck. Those fancy parts standard on the SP isn't something you'd be able to sell. With that many aftermarket parts thrown on a base, almost no one would sell the base with the parts on it.

I’m not terribly worried about the resale either, I buy bikes to ride them as well. I have untold money thrown at most of my bikes and wouldn’t expect to get any of it back. Strip the parts and put the stock ones back on? Too much aggravation. I plan on keeping all my bikes, so it’s not really a consideration anyway. I Just don’t understand the negative comments. If you follow their logic, you should never buy anything other than a base model.

it’s not the first time with negativity this happens with every single new model.same thing happened like Ducati introduced new SL

My "negativity" just stems from the general lack of original upgrades/tweaks that normally follow a SP tag. The SL is justified because it has a lot of SL specific parts, such as the carbon frame, swingarm, etc. There is nothing on the SP other than some engine tweaking to squeeze more midrange torque out that you cannot get from a run of the mill parts catalogue.

It just doesn't feel very SP-ish when everything except the numbered triple clamp can be found on motomillion. SP models are supposed to be relatively unique, which makes them sought after. I can't really imagine anyone with a different model V4 right now looking at the SP and wishing they waited to buy that instead, because they can just spend a few bucks and easily get whatever they wanted on the SP from anyone on the internet.

Well, you can buy lots of carbon stuff off the internet, so what’s the point of a Superleggera?

I'd bet the increased mid range torque is nothing more than Ducati removing or reducing the torque limits they imposed on the V4 engine.

Look this bike like 90% of Ducati’s sold if for guys to ride a round a bit and look cool. That is why gimmicks like electronic suspension exist and are featured in this bike. The smart thing is that they realized that way to market it is like a track bike that YOU can go faster than an R on. Which is sweet especially since they have no R to sell you this year. They are smart the bike is cool and bunch of people are going to buy it. No sense in arguing how much it cost to put those parts on the bike, it’s about the new packaging livery etc. this isn’t new guys and gals
