I have a deposit on a V4s and I'm wobbling a little about keeping my 1299s a bit longer! eg. 89ft/lb v 105ft/lb etc.

If I had a 1199 it would be no contest! V4 all the way! but I love my 1299s so much! aaaargh

TBH the overriding reason is work/family and not getting as much riding time as I'd like. Even if that wasn't the case it would still be a no. In no particular order...

- The majority of my riding is road, I love the twin and torque from the 1299 - especially post tune.
- Aesthetically the V4 doesn't look as good to me. Inevitably the bike is wider but not sure about the tank, flat light covers prone to stone damage and the chain guard reminds me of the cheap and nasty plastic from my 04 R1...
- Nowhere to mount luggage on tail for longer trips, tank would need a work around from current setup.
- Cost to upgrade and the inevitable extras. Dealer said the full Akra is £3,400, plus VAT, plus fitting. Crazy.
- Not a fan of the dash layout. Everyone else seems to like it but I prefer the old one.

None of which will bother the track guys with unlimited budgets! It's clearly a missile & sounds pretty special too. Just too many concessions for me to consider it.

I believe this is Chris Northover, brit journo and ex racer

Ducati test rider. He's a tad handy especially at turn 13

Brilliant.. :)

2012 the 1199 is the most amazing bike ever to grace the earth. Fast forward a few years and the 1299 is the most amazing bike ever to grace the earth and how awful the 1199.
V4 comes out and is the most amazing bike ever to grace the earth, so much better than that old slow 1299.
Lets face it none of the Jornos are going to say its just ok for fear of not being invited to the 1200cc V4 thats no doubt due in 18 months and yes it will be is the most amazing bike ever to grace the earth and how awful was that 1103cc V4!!

And so the Ferris wheel goes round.

We could use independent research but the problem is the same as always...who's willing to pay for it?

Investment research has been plagued with this issue since the dawn of time. Investment bankers offer free research paid for by investment banking deals raising capital or trading revenues. You can't expect to get deals if you bad-mouth the firms you wish to get hired from. Very hard to find "sell recommendations" in any domestic capital markets.

I've had all the SBK models since the 996 and can say without monetary incentives they are progressively getting better with more top end and better handling. I agree you can't always go by what the scribes say but I would say even without riding or seeing one yet that the V4 will be improved over the previous, just as the 1299 over the 1199.

Valia 1:36.84 it ´s too fast.

Fastest race lap in Moto GP for 2017 was a 131.5. I read somewhere that Ducati launched it in Valencia to highlight the handling qualities rather than grunt from the V4.

1:34.1 maxi scheib pole and 1:35.2 carmelo morales 2 º in the last race in the Spanish championship CEV.

1'29.4 for Lorenzo on the same circuit. Valia at 1'36.8, was only 7.4 seconds slower than a full-on MotoGP bike, on a stock V4 with the full Akra system and slicks. Impressive. Here is 44 Teeth's latest video.

Last year Moto 2 Valencia Qualifying pole is 1.35, race bike with slick, qualifying tyre.....

Well so far everybody loves the engine and chassis. Feels smaller than the 43X lbs would suggest and power to school the 1299. Then the Speciale or V4S with optional Akra up's it again and walks over the stock V4. So far sounds like only gripe is price and subjective looks...

They all say it’s easier to ride than the 1299. Which is good and bad. The rear slide thing was neat to see. I hope people realize that the nannies can only save you to a certain point though. Being easier to ride might instill more confidence than they really have in riding ability.

We really haven't seen that over the last 10 years that electronics have gotten more prevalent on the track, it seems to me that the number of crashes at track days now is slightly lower than it used to be. The most common crashes we see are cold front tire corner entry low sides (which who knows, might be helped with the cornering ABS now), and the standard mid-corner low side from too much lean angle and/or choppy throttle/brake use (which theoretically should be helped with DTC). Well, and of course the most damaging crashes are "I didn't think I was going to make the corner, so I stood it up and ran off the track", then the most horrific crash imaginable happens in the grass or gravel! When it comes to that type of crash, the ever-increasing horsepower of these bikes can be an exacerbating factor as the terminal speed entering the braking zone is much higher with much smaller margin for error.
