At the dealer launch last October, Domenicali said that Valia was 4 seconds off the MotoGP race lap record at Valencia, so I think that 1:34 lap was from last year when they were doing final testing. It was specified that was on an otherwise box stock V4S with the Akra exhaust and Pirelli slicks.

Minor details, but he ran at least a 1:35.xx, as the Circuit record (racing not pole) is 1'31.171. Extremely impressive either way.

I am looking forward to reviews of the base V4 hoping it will be good enough to convince me I don't need an S...

It's a hard thing because every year whomever makes a new bike has the best bike ever made. For a year at least until another bike is out. It's worse than computer tech or I phones lol.

I still want one though, although I often wonder if the journalists are paid to gloat.

Yeah I am looking forward to the new BMW launch to see how it stacks up.

And I don't think they are paid directly to gloat, but if you throw stones it decreases the likelihood you'll be invited back again next time. It benefits everyone to say nice things...

impressive stats and specs and looks to be better ergos than the v2, but it is just so aesthetically unappealing and cheap looking. here's hoping they upgrade the looks for the r and/or 2.0 iteration.

I sold my 1199 a couple years ago. Thought I was too crusty for a sportbike of its caliber.

The V4 has me itching. Badly. Started watching all the reviews last night. Certainly seems like the next leap in motorcycle technology and control.

Anyone want to buy a Triumph Tiger 800?? lol.

Initial impressions seem very positive, significantly easier to ride than the 1299, upgraded electronics, very powerful engine etc.

It sounds like a good evolution of the Panigale.

That's the BS that permeates most of the write ups.
