I've always thought weight loss trumps more power in my sports cars and would like to shave as much weight from the 1199s as possible. I've got a shorai battery on the way (-4 lbs) I'm waiting on the akropovic ti full exhaust, taking off the headlights, tail lights, and kickstand.

What other parts can be shaved or replaced for sizeable weight loss? Or am I to the point where its paying out the nose for ti replacement parts.

You have obvious sections - some are worth more than others (the entire sprung/unsprung weight). ..

LiFe battery is an obvious and cheap upgrade to reduce 5lbs.

Some others you should start considering -

-lighter wheels. Especially if you are on base wheels.
-lighter rotors (3k for ceramics, but a bigger gain than going from al to mg/cf)
-520 chain, and lighter sprocket.

individual ti bolts don't do much, but if you put the entire bag of say 40 or 50 bolts, its fairly significant. ..

There are a lot of other areas, but at some point- its also cheaper to go to Jenny Craig than to say get lighter calipers for a couple pounds.

True. I've stopped lifting heavy weights since I got into track riding. Switched into more cardio and higher reps. I'm 6' 175lbs so I can get lighter but not by much. I'm on the S magnesium wheels. Lighter rotors is a good idea.

I assume this is a track bike since you are removing the lights.

Shaving Unsprung weight will provide you better results like:
Light weight wheels
Light tires
Light weight Chain
Light weight Sprockets
Light rotors
Ti Cush pin
Ti rotor bolts

Sprung weight:
Battery
Rear sets
Triple clamp
Clipons
Mirrors
Calipers
Ti screws

Engine internals:
Conrods
Flywheel
Cam chain
Piston

The list can go on. The Pani is already a pretty light bike but the cheapest sprung weight to loose is to get on Jenny Craig
Those MotoGP and WSBK riders are like 127 lbs wet!

???? What kind of shady tires are you buying?? lol

Also, unless you've upgraded, you're on the S aluminum wheels. Not mag. The only Ducati that came with Mag wheels was the d16rr.

Wow I thought they were mag. What kind of weight savings would I see going to mag? I don't want cf.

Going off of top of memory -

Base wheels 21lbs
S wheels - 15-16lbs
Magnesium wheels - 13lbs
BST Carbon - 12

Those are rounded off. . . Its like 12.25 or something like that. . ..

When are you expecting delivery of your Akra??

What's the best mag wheels to get? Its a good mod since I can sell the S wheels for good money.

Mich Pures were (supposedly) the lightest street tires available at one point. I couldn't tell you whether it was true or not, my streched turbo busa didn't behave any different:D.

How much difference could there be between two tyres??? Weight wise I mean...

My thoughts exactly - and then on top of that, the difference on the street is probably so useless, but when you go to the track you'll be looking at different tires completely.

Marhesini - I have a set, they were only $2200 delivered.

Had this discussion with another 1199 rider yesterday... Can you tell/feel a difference with these wheels???

Heres an article from way back about Pures and weight shed.

Michelin Power Pure Review | Ducati News Today

I looked at these way back, and was thinking these, mags, and the carbon brake setup would almost make the bike float! I think the mag wheels give you the best bang for the buck at 2K. 4K for the brakes is nuts (IMO). The tires while light, means you are choosing a particular brand/tread/size strickly on weight which is not a reason to choose a tire, again, IMO. There is a whole other thread on this.

What about complete CF bodywork and subframe? I seen the subframe saves you 4 lbs but not sure what the total weight loss woud be for the rest of the panels and fairings.
