What BS Did YOUR Sales Rep Tell You?

Nice, I've got to travel 300 miles to get a good deal with a no BS dealer. $2k difference in price!!!!
btw, where on L.I. are you? and are you keeping your R1?
I love my 09 R1 and may have to sell it to make room for the 1199

I'm in Nassau county. Def keeping the R1. Had the ECU "unleashed"'by Motomummy. Best mod. Bike is very quick.

I compare it with the 1199 as such:

R1 is to Porsche 911 TT as 1199s is to GT3 RS
R1 can be ridden by most anyone as can the 911 TT

the 1199S needs a lot of input as does the 3RS or it will bite you!!

Whitey

My first dealer, who had my deposit for six months, told me I was "first in line" for an S/ABS. in late may, he said that there would be zero S /ABS's delivered to our area until late June, as per the DNA regional rep. I was sitting on an S /ABS at a dealer not 20 miles away when he told me that line of COMPLETE BS!! I went immediately to the bank and cut a check for my new bike from my new dealer who has been nothing short of perfect and just so accommodating since I bought it.

Bike had 1 mile on it.

Didnt you tell me you got it from Whitey at NY Motorcycle? Where is he at now again? Long Island? Dude that guy is a legend in Ducati !!

Unfortunately, never got to meet Whitey. Bought my R1 from them..good experience. However, the salesrep for the Duc either didn't know what was going on with bike to dealer allocations, or he was truly BS'ing me. Hard to believe he didn't know there were already bikes on the island. It's a small
Island with an even smaller Ducati community.

I did hear tell that their company was going through significant management changes; thus there could have been some validity to their particular units being delayed.

It was the global state of 'zero' bikes on the island that pushed me away from them.

As my momma used to say, don't try to BS a BS'er!

"Your second in line!" I had a friend phone up to be told the first one had been delivered but the next 4 were going to one family. So jumped ship and landed on a cancelled order. Job done just need to arrange 5 spare minutes to pick the bloody thing up!!!

Gnome

I was told it had a turbo. I didn't believe them, but then I rode it and experienced the power delivery myself. Now as I accelerate I yell at it, "spool damn it! spool!!!" :D

Completely lost me with this comment. How will it bite you?

I have ridden both and own a 1199s (came from a 1098 streetfighter) and find it one of the easiest bikes I have ridden. Even more so compared to the r1 which will buck you off in a second if your throttle hand gets to excited.

Seems an odd statement and would love to hear where it has "bitten" you.

Too many Yama-Hops to the head. I'm with you and what the heck is he talking about with all the 'this is to that' comparison non-sense. Using some of his 'logic' I say the R1 is to the 1199 as an anchor is to a speedboat.

Stay Focused Please?

Correct me if I am wrong gents, are we "off topic" a bit here on my thread?
It was started to show the community all the stupid ass stuff that sales reps are doing around the country, and world! I am still amazed at some of the stuff I am hearing here. Lets see what all the new buyers have to say about their experiences!!

am amazed by what i hear about dealers. mine has been really open. their advice was actually to make sure i revved the bike hard at times, their view was not to nurse it too much as essentially a race engine dislikes constant rpm more as it is broken in than actually being run. was told what differs before service is where the red line is on the display and when it will suggest you change

Because it's true... I wasn't really told anything dumb by the dealership... surprisingly. I was able to ride my RC8R on the track again after getting the 1199. I found that the Ducati pulls SO much harder in the power band, but that the RC8R has the more traditional V-Twin power curve. That and the 1199 needs a lot more force to lock up the brakes and wheelie; very stable chassis.

The Hell With That!!

Not Joking, South Florida. Same Dealer wants 20.8k OTD for a Base non ABS:eek:

Brother you would be so much better off letting me find youa bike up here and have it shipped to you, hell Id drive it halfway there in an enclosed trailer if you pay for my diesel fuel! Exactly what bike were you looking for btw? The Base Non-ABS?

Don't forget - Florida has like a 7% motorcycle tax on bikes sold/acquired/etc there. ..

So whatever the cost of the bike - add 7% to get it titled there. . . doesn't sound like too much but it adds up. On an 18K you're looking at 1250 or so.

If you're serious about getting an 1199, give Paul Bunde a call at NPR ducati

Located close to Athens GA. He's been involved with ducs for decades and loves the brand. I've bought two ducs from him and will be buying a hyper from him next year. He'll treat you right.

Thanks, I found a Dealer in Ocala(300 miles away) that was at 19.2 k OTD for a base which is almost 2k less than my Local Dealer.I'm just deciding on Base or S. but definitely gonna buy from him.

One of the guys at the dealer where I bought my 1199 S ABS told me Ducati had removed the electronic immobilizer from the keys to save weight. 100% wrong according to the manual.

That's Melillimoto, owner is cool. They generally beat out anyone by a good amount.

Local dealer was at $20k with the setup and destination. Not including tags & title work for a base non-abs.

@efna and lard: Not to hijack this any further; but turn off ALL of your nanny's and leave it in full race mode....then get happy with the throttle @ 11k plus...let me know how you make out

Yes the R1 had a jumpy throttle...smoothed that out with a reflash and it has a very linear and predictable response now.

1199 and R1 are both anchors if you're not going to redline, thus your experiences may differ.

(sorry Gunny)
