What Do You Use To Clean Your 1199?

I use...

Pro Honda Spray Cleaner & Polish and a very soft cloth diaper. This stuff cuts the bugs and grease and polishes to a very nice shine.

do you a link for us source? I used it many years ago on a sports car I had

I have used PLEXUS (Spray) to clean my bike, however on a recent trip to the UK my biker mates informed me about AUTO GLYM (Spray *NOT* Wax). I have never come across this particular brand before. PLEXUS is good stuff, yet does not give quite the same "new bike shine" as you see so often in the dealers.

I managed to source AUTO GLYM spray and WOW !! This spray makes the bike so shiny that it is amazing somewhat akin to having a thin layer of glass.

In addition, it makes Matte/Satin Carbon Fiber look even better.

I highly recommend AUTO GLYM over PLEXUS (pics attached).

Great topic. I used to do this as a side business. Mostly custom HD's but a fair few sportsbikes as well. Many nights using cotton buds and metal polish cleaning spoked rims...

For my minor washes I use either Zaino/dodo juice soft shampoo's in a snow lance, wash off, then Optimum Opticoat or Zaino CS as a light sealant and will occasionally use an LSP after that but that is more for a full detail. Dash and windscreen are VuPlex.

For the full detail which I'm yet to do, will also include Menzerna polishes and my favourite Zaino Z2, as well as Carpro Cquartz for the matte wheels.

To get rid of any crud I usually use an Iso mix or some APC.

Cheers,
MoZ

What about greasy smudgy .... that gets in around shifter and brake linkages and all the little nooks and crannies. ?
9,000 klm on mine now, and it's time for a thorough once-over. I'm fine with the plastic / painted areas, but the titanium and aluminium tight bits I don't know what to do with.
Soft paint brush and some kind of water-soluble degreaser ?
I dunno"¦

When I want to get into those pieces, I just use my Honda spray and a small soft toothbrush. Gets the grease out of all the tight spots.

I clean all my bikes the same way and have for years. I fill a bucket with water then use a sheepskin car wash mitt and wipe everything off and dry with a microfiber towel. I seldom use a hose unless it is seriously dirty. If I do use a hose, I want the bike to be cooled off, then I use a leaf blower to blow the water off and dry with a towel. I really don't like starting the bike with water all over the engine and in crevices. Most tap water has a lot of minerals that will leave deposits on a hot engine.

As Said many times.....honduh polish!
And S100 engine brightner on the hoses and engine case.

on my ninja i use to use s100 but on this bike i will try not to use water on it. I was using maguires quick detailer and a very soft microfiber cloth. However I was at gunnys house and he had the honda bright aka honda spray cleaner and polish. Stuff plain works amazing so every time i go to the dealer i pick up a can so i have plenty. For the chain i was going to use motul chain cleaner however 9 oz was 15 bucks. BMW makes a chain cleaner and it was on 14 oz for 10 bucks but it was on sale for 7 so same thing IMO. (can you use a bmw cleaner on a duc :)?) for the windscreen i use nuvus they have 3 products, cleaner/polish fine scratch remover and heavy scratch remover. choose as you see fit. i also use that for my helmet visors. finally i use dupont chain lube spray in the yellow can after i clean the chain. Get the spray so much easier than the 4 oz drip bottle.

I use wd40 for that, great for cleaning off road tar, chain fling etc.

After a wand wash. I use Motul Shine and Go. It seems to work about the same as the honda cleaner. Even works great to clean off chain spray.

I never touch the windscreen though, maybe a bit of pressurized air, thats it. Windscreens scratch so easy.

Just wondering what should I use to clean the exhaust? There are two areas i am concerned with. The brushed cover and the more bare spot in front of the the back wheel. Also the manifold that connects the two pipes is starting to get a bit rusty.

I was thinking of just wiping the whole area down with a rag and autosol metal polish?

Let me know what has worked for you guys!

I'm scared to wash it. The paint is soft as ......

I use a 1:1 mix of isopropyl alcohol to get grease / lube off.

Or Poorboys all purpose cleaner.

Gave it a polish the other day to try and get the scratches and swirl marks out that it came with, and made it worse.

Soft.As.......

Not happy.

You're not using the right products and or your method is a problem.
