What Do You Use To Clean Your 1199?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Motul Spray and Shine, with a micro fiber cloth, wipe it off every time I ride it, so much easier to keep it clean, its only seen water once in 6 months, but it stays really clean

I normally water a little bit...and warm water with car soap on the bucket.
Clean with a special glove for car wash. Water again and I use air compressor to dry it out and with a microfiber towel I dry the bike to complete.

I use:

( 1 time a year ) Chemical Guys WAC_118_16 - JetSeal Sealant and Paint Protectant (16 oz)

( 1 time a month) Chemical Guys WAC_310 - Lava Luminous Glow Infusion (8 oz)

Chemical Guys MIC_301_01 - Chubby Supra Microfiber Towel, 16.5" x 16.5"

Chemical Guys MIC_292_01 - Premium Grade Microfiber Applicator, 2" x 2"

Thanks!

Considering my last ride 2 months ago was in the country at very high speeds, and has been sitting in the garage with bug splatter all over it since - I dont think I am qualified to talk about cleaning :( .... I really should though sigh

I use a wet chamois on the front of bike and helmet after a ride. Bugs are water soluble so I wet and leave on for a while and most gunk comes right off. Then wipe it all down with detail spray and microfiber cloth.

Once ever so often when it seems to be getting dirty in small areas I foam the whole bike with a foam gun. Then use a sponge and wash the whole bike. Chain cleaned before this with chain cleaner.

Next step is to spray the whole bike with pressure washer turned on low so low pressure and less water than what would be used from a hose.

Once done bike is dried with a car dryer which is a reverse vacuum with filter. Final step is to lube chain.

Bike waxed several times a year. I also wax my matt carbon parts as it give a little sheen to them.

I just take mine to a car wash and watch them wash it...

Pretty cool this thread is still going since I put it up July 2012 !
Then again we Ducati owners will ALWAYS be diligent in keeping our prized possessions clean and well maintained aren't we? ;)

Oohrah and Semper Fi my fellow Members!

Do you guys know where to pick up Autoglym at a decent price? Almost $20 shipped at Amazon and other vendors are even more.

All your ideas are great,,,

How ever please do not use break cleaner on any thing but a rag, for wiping pads, rotors, clutch parts, and flywheels.... It causes the paint to "die" literally kills the quality of protection, luster, and adhesion,,,

I buy spray bottles from the home-depot for $1.50 and keep them in a 5 gallon bucket 7 fit perfectly,, 1 water, 1 water shampoo mix, 1 quick wax, 1 quick detailed, 1 degreaser, 1 water isopropyl alcohol mix, 1 non Amina window cleaner..

Start with a quick blow down with a air gun

Next wipe with a wet microfiber rag with the shampoo mix,
Baby shampoo, or car shampoo works 1:15 or up to 1:30 works well on body and non wheels and non chain area..

Wipe with micro fiber rag using de-mineralized, or de-ionized water

Wipe whole bike dry use air gun

Now the fun,,

Honda polish I would recommend hands down, but for some one who saves their money for "Ducati's $300 oil change" I recommend lemon pledge..

Honda polish if you never used it is "like .... thru a goose" but 15$ A can where pledge is $3

The chemical make up is so similar that pledge should sue honda, how ever honda doesn't come in lemon scent and pledge doesn't come in new car smell...

Wiping every thing down with a pledge soaked microfiber cloth folding and keeping the rag clean removes every thing.. Bug, rubber, parking tickets,, you name it..

If wax is desired I would use meguiar's quick wax and a microfiber rag,
If a fast detail is needed use the maguires quick detail,
For grease, oil fling, or break dust I again use lemon pledge folding the rag as much as possible, after you swing arm and wheels are coated with pledge it is so easy to clean week after week, like water off a ducks back.

The soft ammonia free glass cleaner works awesome on the minors makes the same affect as "a diamond in a goats ass"

When ever you get serious build up try a clay bar and keep it wet with quick detailer folding as much as possible.and wax after your happy,

Polishing every 30-90 days keeps a wet look using the ultimate polish for meguiar's and a orbital makes a awesome deep look.

We-40 can be used on the exhaust
I would avoid contact cleaner at all cost.

I'm sure I could go on a wile more but you got the idea.

Gunnyfitz,
Sorry I was a year late.

Lol

" I would just ride it thru at that point"

An alternate to Honda Polish is Original Bike Spirits. Same stuff. Just a hell of a lot cheaper than what Honda is asking for theirs (my dealer has it for about $6 a can).
