What's your mileage?

Recently, while I was at the dealership to see if my DP carbon wings came in, I had a conversation with a few other Ducati owners. We were discussing mods, where we ride etc., and I happened to mention the mileage on my bike is around 5200 mi. within one year of ownership. They gasped and were shocked. Apparently they felt I put a lot of miles on my bike in a short amount of time.

Am I riding my SF too much?? Should I be apprehensive about approaching the "Desmo" service mileage when that time comes?

I wanted to get others' opinions here, as well as maybe get a consensus as to how many miles you all have on your bikes, and in what type of timeframe these miles were accumulated.

In 205 days, I’ve ridden 6,009 miles. And I don’t commute on it.

I put 15k miles on my panigale in 2.5 years and I cant ride year round here in the northwest. I do all my own servicing including desmo. Just ride the thing and enjoy it.

Nice! Thanks for the reply, Ryfly. I wasn't sure why they were so surprised at how many miles I had on mine, so it had me a bit worried, but sounds like its normal. Haha

Come to think of it, one of the guys said he only had 1500mi on his 2018 1199 (I believe thats what it was). Made me start thinking I ride mine too much.

300-400 miles a week (half the year)All mountain roads, no commuting. Replaced the BBS a couple of years ago so I don’t know the actual mileage (it’s not logged on an unmatched BBS) but prior to the swap it had about 17k on it so, yeah it’s got a lot of miles on the motor. Bike is refreshed often and parts are swapped often but the basic motor assembly probably has 30k on it.

Yep and that’s one of the gripes I had with guys chiming in on reliability issues and general feedback who had very little seat time. There are a lot of “museum” bikes out there. Easy to spot. Super clean, no bugs in the radiator, no tire wear. Newport Beach is packed with them. Way more time on the side stand than the road.

We’ll take that with some caution. This particular bike is more of an evolving project to try new things so it is scrutinized pretty heavily from a maintenance and upkeep perspective. I don’t give 2 ..... what it looks like but mechanically, it gets a lot of attention.

What do you mean by "ride too much"? You can't ride a bike too much. If you keep up with fresh tyres and service, just ride and enjoy! That's it. I think people generally ride their bikes too little. Sometimes I wonder why people buy beautiful, amazing, expensive bikes and don't ride them (like a couple of 1000 miles a year). Is the primary goal to *have* and show off the bike with a ton of CF mods on social media, or to *ride* and enjoy the bike?

7000 on my V2 in just over a year. That’s all on the island of Oahu. It’s meant to be ridden and enjoyed! As far as the Desmo service, that’s something we know going in right? If we have the ability to afford these amazing machines it stands to reason that we can also afford the upkeep. My $0.02.
 
30k miles in my 2 years of ownership of 2012 1199 s tricolore. Previuosly bike was part of a collection with under 2k miles in 7 years. I don't commute, all twisty weekend riding. Reliable other than replacing gear position switch and MAP sensor. Otherwise tires. chain, brakes and oil.... normal wear and maintenance. Ride the bike!!

Agreed. I guess I was just surprised at their shock to me having 5k miles in one year. It's not like I abuse the bike, I just enjoy riding it.

Smart buyers get Ducatis with the desmo service "priced in" to their decision. You'd be surprised how many people buy Ducatis with no idea what desmo service is or why it will cost more than a usual valve service. Hence why you often see most Ducatis for sale on craigslist and whatnot either just before or right at their desmo service point.

If a bike is out of warranty, it's almost a waste to get this service done since almost every street and even track ridden bikes are usually within spec. My 1199 isn't close to 15k miles but it definitely won't be getting a desmo service done. I'll keep my 1500+
