And one from you
So much nonsense in this thread. The whole original question is based on a premise plucked out of the OPs arse with zero hard data to back it up. Pure trolling (and this comes from an S1000RR owner).
With regards to how this thread has degenerated: there may be other reasons involved but a major reason for Audi acquiring Ducati relates to European emissions laws. I read in the English motoring press somewhere that car manufacturers have an allowance for emissions based on an average of all their vehicles. So the big gas guzzling Lamborghinis and A8s are offset by the relatively fuel efficient motorcycles produced by Ducati. Obviously BMW have this taken care of within their group without acquisition but other manufacturers have to buy this in.
The notion that a manufacturer rushed out a model to attract investment interest is utter bunk. The Panigale probably created more problems for Audi than it solved from a manufacturing perspective but it buys them something instantly which is much more expensive to engineer organically.
40,000 cycles won't make a dent in VW or Audi's averages. So emissions had nothing to do with it.
Lol. Do some research idiot.
I did, and I resemble that remark.
I don't think so and I do think so (in that order).
It was said they "could", and at only 40,000, that ain't gonna happen. Show me the math, and show where Audi said that is why. Otherwise, add IMO to your post know-it-nothing.
The thing is that the emissions targets are based on ratio of emissions and vehicle mass. The thing about motorcycles is that they are...um...what is that good thing about the Pani?...motorcycles are...umm..."less massy" or however you would say it. So 40000 motorcycles are not considered the same as 40000 cars. That's how I know you have no ....... idea what all this is about and why I know you didn't do your research. Maybe The motoring press are right, maybe they are wrong but they and I at least read up on it before postulating.
I did read up, and it is just a theory by at least one observer. Others disagree that is a reason, I am simply one of those. I am disputing the claim based on some, not a ton, of research. I am not attacking your position (as you are mine and me), I am merely disputing the position itself. Until Audi is quoted as saying that is why, this is nothing but a theory, no more valid than any other. Calm down.
So emissions had nothing to do with it.
Oh and just to lead you by the hand a bit further...maybe the Ducati acquisition offsets the Lamborghini acquisition only from an emissions perspective. A few hundred or thousand Lambos pumping out poison can easily be offset by 40000 bikes if the VAG is self contained from that perspective. I reiterate, I'm not saying that is the sole reason for the acquisition but it's a pretty compelling corollary.
Since Ducati is under Lambo (on paper) it is still Italian, and yes, those 40,000 might make a dent in Lambo's average. But there is no way in a million years (IIMO, and others) that that is the reason. We may never know the real reason, which is why I maintain it was for "fun"
