Hey guys,

I'm in the market for an 1199 and I've been somewhat perplexed at how flooded the market is with 2012 Pani's that are for sale with 400-600 miles on them, and even a few 2013. In my neighborhood there are two Duc dealers with a total of FIVE 2012 Pani's for sale all under 1000 miles. Warranties on these bikes will be up soon, unless I buy an extended warranty. I could save quite a bit of cash on a 2012, a Tricolore + Termis with 600 miles on it is my first choice. I could get it for $20.5k + ext waranty. Is this a good deal? What was the MSRP of the 12 Tricolore? Or should I just pony up for a 2014 with full warranty. What would you guys do? I appreciate the input from current owners.

I'm too tired to read all of this and comment on everything, but just make sure whatever you do has adequate warranty left, or has an extended warranty.

Happy hunting!

Most Ducati owners own more than one bike. They bought the Pani because it's sexy as all hell and made a nice addition to their stable. But when it comes time to ride, they typically jump on their Multi or Monster. The reason the low mile ones are for sale is because, after a couple years they finally realize they aren't going to ride it like they thought they would, go into the dealer and trade it in on something else.

Don't be alarmed at the low miles....if you saw the garages of most Ducati owners you'd understand.

But if you'd like to buy a 28,000 mile 2012 you can always make me an offer. :)

Thanks for the input. I pretty much figured this was the situation. This type of buyer is nice because it makes for some good second round deals for someone like me. I just retired my 25k mile 998 so I'm ready to put some serious miles on an almost new Pani.

I got the Pani to keep the miles of the PS. :D

Outside of that, I would have to agree on your assessment. :)

There are very few 2012's with accurate miles on the odometer... I am having my 4th dash cluster changed out as I type this.. Every time I have it done, my miles go back to zero. Call a Ducati dealer with the VIN and they will tell you the true miles on the bike.

That's why.

Yikes. Good info. I'm only buying from dealers so hopefully I can find one with true miles.

I am not sure Ducati dealers, besides the ones which last serviced the bike, know the effective miles.
They do not share data AFAIK.

Ducati 2012 1199 Panigale S Tricolore

I have seen this bike at Moto Forza. It looks like someone bought the entire Rizoma catalog and put it on. Plus the Termi exhaust is powder or ceramic coated and wrapped with header wrap
It's impressive to see in person.
If you deal with Moto Forza you won't be sorry. They've treated me really well sense my purchase. Ask for Balz. It's his shop and he will be straight with you.

Happy hunting.

I would still be concerned.. early in the production run, many bikes had the display clusters changed due to various electrical problems. I don't think I've EVER heard of a 2012 that didn't have at least one dash swapped. They eventually figured out a fix of the cable and that rectified the need to switch out the entire display. If I ever bought a used Ducati Panigale, I would suggest asking Ducati for the record of all the warranty work done on the bike. Every time the dash was replaced, the miles went back to zero. Like I said, mine has been done 4 times. I never have a state inspection done on my bike so, all state history reports don't show it's mileage each year.

Every time they switch out the display, they record the miles on the warranty claim to Ducati.. You would just need to add up the miles at each dash swap.

That information is available at any Ducati dealer I would imagine for any Ducati.

Many bought the bike for the status symbol. They would cruise down to Starbucks with their Panigale, Ducati gloves, Ducati helmet, and Ducati jeans.

After the novelty wore off they had to find something else to get the attention of the Starbucks crowd.

Mine has never had an issue.

I believe it's a federal crime for failure to check that "odometer does not show actual mileage" box on the transfer of ownership in the event that the odo is off.

I have 3 Ducati's and still have 4000 miles on my Pani and counting.

It's my bike of choice for all the illegal activities on the freeways and what not.

I disliked my '12 "S" so much I traded it in for a '13 "R".

I've owned over 30 bikes, and never has a bike brought a bigger smile to my face every time she is fired up.

Mine will be two years old tommorrow. Still original dash. So now you know at least one.:)

AntiHero, you can't sell your bike yet. You still have to ride it around the world. A lot of us can't wait for that trip to become a reality.

Wow... the three or so people I know in Austin who bought one of the first batches of 12' Panigales have all had dash issues.

Nevertheless, it may be a reason why some show so few miles? Bet the Starbucks reason is common though.

I ride the .... outta mine...not to Antihero level but I don't buy a motorcycle just to ride it to Starbucks.
