Why so many low mile 2012s for sale??

I don't think you can chalk it up to any one thing. I've heard everything from "getting divorced" to "need cash for kidney transplant." Also, some people get bored with their bikes & cars once they are done building them out to their satisfaction. The thrill of the chase is over at that point.

Most Ducati owners own more than one bike. They bought the Pani because it's sexy as all hell and made a nice addition to their stable. But when it comes time to ride, they typically jump on their Multi or Monster. The reason the low mile ones are for sale is because, after a couple years they finally realize they aren't going to ride it like they thought they would, go into the dealer and trade it in on something else.

Don't be alarmed at the low miles....if you saw the garages of most Ducati owners you'd understand.

But if you'd like to buy a 28,000 mile 2012 you can always make me an offer. :)

Well said. I'm lucky, I have three bikes and still managed 5300 miles in the first 14 months on my Panigale, and have no interest in getting rid of it"¦..

I have a 2012 that I picked up brand new with no dash issues. I have about 6500mi on her and the last 3000 or so have been track only. 6500 plus miles in 8 months. I do 2/3 track days a month.

Hey guys,

I'm in the market for an 1199 and I've been somewhat perplexed at how flooded the market is with 2012 Pani's that are for sale with 400-600 miles on them, and even a few 2013. In my neighborhood there are two Duc dealers with a total of FIVE 2012 Pani's for sale all under 1000 miles. Warranties on these bikes will be up soon, unless I buy an extended warranty. I could save quite a bit of cash on a 2012, a Tricolore + Termis with 600 miles on it is my first choice. I could get it for $20.5k + ext waranty. Is this a good deal? What was the MSRP of the 12 Tricolore? Or should I just pony up for a 2014 with full warranty. What would you guys do? I appreciate the input from current owners.

I did the same, got me a 2013 1199S with 1700mls for 17K€, that's 10K€ less than the 27K€ MSRP, it came with termi slipons and DP race seat. I would do it all over again! :D

I would still be concerned.. early in the production run, many bikes had the display clusters changed due to various electrical problems. I don't think I've EVER heard of a 2012 that didn't have at least one dash swapped.

My 2012 still has original dash. 11.5k miles.

2012 owner with the original dash. Only 2500 miles though! I have the multiple bike excuse.

That doesn't get you off the hook. My mileage in little over a year. Also put another 3k+ on the Triumph. :p

You should stop spending time posting on forums and go ride. :)

I have an 2012 base non-abs. No dash issue. No issues really except for the for the front fork losing dampening. Forks replaced and no other issues. 10,400+ miles now. Love my bike.

Probably because they have had so much warranty work the owners haven't had a chance to ride them

I am not sure Ducati dealers, besides the ones which last serviced the bike, know the effective miles.
They do not share data AFAIK.

This is incorrect. The Ducati NA system that all dealer use and log all recall work done to each 1199 has the data and miles that were on the dash when it was replaced. I had one dash replaced and forgot how many miles were on my original dash before it was replaced. This thread reminded me about it and I called my dealer earlier today. He couldn't find the info in his individual shop system, so went into the Ducati NA dealer service system and found the info under my VIN.

2012 Tri, 4500 miles, no fogging dash, not left hand switch problems, no melting fairings. Guess i'm one of the lucky ones. The only thing that wears out on this thing is the tires

Its too much bike for some.

Added to the normal used sales market of any liter bike.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. LOL

For me and riding all my life, I love it and beat on it, and have no reason to ditch it. The bike just works so well in all areas.

I think the reason most sell this bike is that the marketing hype that accompanied the intro of the bike.

After the luster wore off, the posers and folks who couldn't afford this model are dumping them.

I'm not bragging, I had to leverage everything I had to get this machine and I am thankful and blessed to even be able to pay for this bike.

It's the nature of the passion of motorcycling vs. the problem of paying. I saw the same thing with guys from my unit when we came back from OIF and they bought Harley bikes.

They sold everyone after a few months because they were too expensive. That is probably at work here.

Panigale only clocked 3300km after two years of owning..My 3rd dash only show 400km ODO..I'm on my way for the 4rd dash,Had requested life time warranty for the dash from ducati italy....

I would still be concerned.. early in the production run, many bikes had the display clusters changed due to various electrical problems. I don't think I've EVER heard of a 2012 that didn't have at least one dash swapped. They eventually figured out a fix of the cable and that rectified the need to switch out the entire display. If I ever bought a used Ducati Panigale, I would suggest asking Ducati for the record of all the warranty work done on the bike. Every time the dash was replaced, the miles went back to zero. Like I said, mine has been done 4 times. I never have a state inspection done on my bike so, all state history reports don't show it's mileage each year.

My '12 has its original dash which shows 4500 miles on it. It has had the wiring update for the signal/horn issue, but that seems to have addressed the problem sufficiently.

PJ's in Albuquerque has an 1199R with 200 miles on it for $23k!
