1199 around town, 2014 edition

I changed my first base model 1199 to the 41T rear, and that made the bike much more lively.

Here's an interesting tidbit- I just put the street body back on my 1199R to use it as a streetbike for a little while. When I first got it, I ran it 600mi on the street with the stock cans and no up-map just to get it broken in before I stripped it for the track. With the stock exh, it frequently stalled, and didn't have the greatest of manners around town, sometimes dodgy throttle response. Fast forward to now, with the Termis it is positively awesome for back-roads riding. No stalling, perfect smooth fuel mapping.

1199 is not the bike to be stuck in traffic on. It's a big dog that wants to run. Anything under about 40 mph and it starts to heat up. If you've ridden a 2012 without the heat shield upgrades, it can get downright painful without leathers, but updated bikes, and 2013+ are fine.

I am used to the Monster 1100 EVO with stock gearing, so the 1199 feels as smooth as glass, in traffic, compared to that :D

Heat wise, it runs a whole 15F hotter than my 1098, but heat does not bother me much, as long as it does not bother the bike.
Again, the 1100 EVO, in traffic, when hot, generate a focused heat stream hitting the inner thigh, which is much worse than the diffuse heat coming from the 1199.

Alright, few tips. All known stuff, but worth reminding.
You can't possibly ride with straight arms with all the upper body weight hitting your wrists.
That has two major drawbacks. First, it kills your wrists and forearms, second, you do not control your bike with that riding position. Bike wants to go straight.
You have to move more weight on the foot pegs, grab the tank with your thighs, and use you back to hold the weight.
Your arms should carry no weight, or almost no weight. Being 6'1", I find myself bending my torso towards the tank, like in track mode.
Yes, your back will do a workout.
Alternate the straight arms riding position at times, to give your back some rest.
When stopped at signals, keep an eye on the mirrors, but raise up and straighten your torso.

Bike is perfect out of the box for anything I need to do on the road for daily use. Added a tank bag and that's all she needed. Save your ducats IMO for the services or another bike unless you are want to compete.
