So, is it as bad as the 996, 999' or 1098/1198s? On try old 999, I had heat blowing on my left shin that actually caused burn scars right above the boot line. So, I figure nothing's changed just the location of the burn ;)

I just posted this because there were a couple of riders that said they actually got burned. At the right tempature, and depending on what they were wearing, and the length of time, it is possible. But any bike it's possible. And these numbers are actually on most water heaters as well.

Nope...I had an 2009 R1, 2011 BMW Sthou, older ducs in the past, other jap sportbikes- CBR's Gixxers, RC51 and Aprilia RSv Mille, ...they never caused any Blisters on my upper inner thigh except my Panigale "S". Some where a bit hot but not hot enough to cause blisters...1199 Panigale did that with my textile touring pants. Thats a fact. I now wear leathers always.

Though, the Panigale is the best bike I have ever owned...Am hoping to get my Heatshield soon to address the heat issue once and for all. We do have 35c-40c climate here in the Phils. I would understand if I lived in the UK where its cold and raining most of the time...or other Cold countries, but not here in the Philippines!!! Not here!
Darn Hot!!!!!! No other bike gave me this ...... heat issue....reallly!

My longer ride yesterday with outside temps to 86 degrees and engine temps upto 220, I did get two red heat related area by lower thigh/near the knees on both sides. It felt hot but I didn't think I'd get the burns again. I was wearing my usual jeans and I tried not gripping the tank/fairing area with my legs. Granted the burns not as bad (milder 1st degree) as the pre-heatshield update ( this burn I could feel for several hrs after the ride), but it's still there. Not sure yet, but I'm thinkkng of trade the bike in depending on how bad the situation gets during the summer.

Someone just posted in Frosty's thread that the only reason you are getting burned is because you are a squid and not wearing proper attire and that the bike is not all that hot. :)

Lol, saw that and noted to it appropriatley. :)

I think we've been down this road before. It depends how you use the bike and how often. I put more miles on my bikes than my truck (had my truck 8 years and it has 50k miles) and they are my primary means of transportation. Sometimes I am going somewhere where I can't wear proper gear and carry regular clothes with me, change, go to a meeting or whatever, and then reverse the change and ride back across town. Sometimes I need to wear jeans and choose to do so even when I don't have to if I am commuting in stop and go traffic in 90F+ degree weather. Under those circumstances, this bike is really hot. None of my other bikes have been or are this hot. I can ride the SF all day in jeans and it won't burn you, but this one can burn you in about 20-30 minutes easy. You don't even have to be in stop and go traffic to get burned either. I consistently see temps in the 200-220 range riding backroads in 2nd and 3rd gear if it's hot outside and if you pinch the tank/frame how you are supposed to you can't hang on long when the bike is in that temp range.

I concur.. the traffic doesn't help the situation but regardless i've noted the bike runs quite hot now that it's summertime weather. I'll still use the jeans but keep the ride time in short interval. Hopefully that'll help.

just picked my bike up from having the heat-shield updates done. It wasnt the hottest day here today but bike still got up to 104c on the gauge when stuck in traffic, prior to the updates the bike would have been getting a bit unfomfortable by then - not un-rideable but starting to feel real heat on the legs through textile pants - but now not at all, totally comfortable. Very happy i had it done so far, riding on a much hotter day will be the real test of course!

Hugepiece could you post pics of all the heat shields you put on? Who makes them and how much did it set you back?

I just got the standard 2013 factory updated ones (Rear hoop and head covers) as part of the warranty recall. They look better in the flesh and much better than in pics. Will try and take a couple over the weekend, but lots of pics on here.

Did I hear someone say whining? I have owned RF600 07, GSX-r 600, 600RR, R1, 696, 1100s, zx10R, 990 SDR, 990 SD, 690 Duke R, MV 990R, 1100evo, SF1098, Er6n and none and I mean none of these bikes run nearly as hot as the Pani on your thighs (the heat redirection sucks big time). I wore full RS taichi leathers. No one here complaining about the heat is whining the damn bike runs too hot period. I don't have to be breaking the law to enjoy a bike. I can't coast in traffic, i cant just slap on some jeans and a jacket and go riding. Guys its unbearable in slow traffic on a hot day PERIOD! Lets face it. Amazing ride with with brilliant tech but how could ducati miss this? I rode deals gap this weekend with Randy and Lyle from bellissimoto and they all agreed that the Pani runs too hot. We swapped bikes on our ride there and within a few miles Randy wanted his 999R back, he just could not deal with it any longer (and randy is not one that whines). A friend of a friend suffered burns through his jeans while riding and i don't care for those on here saying wear your leathers. No i wont wear leather pants riding to work, I just want to enjoy the and ride my beautiful 15k plus toy.

While at the gap i met a nice guy with an 1199r and his had the heat shield and it looked fine: just fine. How well it works I don't know but I love this bike so much I am willing to try anything that would make our relationship stronger so my order for all heat shields goes in today. Oh did I mention the brakes: Simply AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just me 2 cents

On that note, I know it's a bit off topic but does anyone feel the brake lever is a bit squishy? I mean it's quite deceptive because the brakes come on strong despite the squishyness, but still.....squishy?? Anyone else?

Nope. No squishiness.
But then I'm pretty religious about changing fluid/bleeding brakes and clutch about once every month or so.

Hmmm, well I haven't changed it once since I got the bike new, about 5000 miles on it now. Maybe squishyness isn't the right word. More like, it's super easy to pull, not very firm despite the immediate brake response....oh well, as long as it brakes well I suppose it's fine :D

Heat hasn't bothered me. It's no hotter than my 748 was in terms of being uncomfortable.
I did have it raise a few blisters on the upper inside of my leg right where the seat meets the frame a few weeks back. Turns out one of the bolts holding the "stock" manifold loop heat shield had come out and it was venting exhaust gas directly to the metal seat subframe.
A few minutes with a replacement bolt and some locktite and there hasn't been a recurrence.

Just picked up my 2012 Base from first service ($420.00 !) and went for the sprocket/chain update ($520.00). Also had the anti heat upgrade done and on my 9 mile commute to work through traffic in jeans on an 85 degree day there is a definite improvement relative to less heat on the inner thigh (although hotter just above the boot on inner shin). The sprocket change has removed the no mans land between 1st and 2nd gear on tight corners. Overall big thumbs up on both upgrades.

I asked my dealer and he said that other then the recall for the 2012, nothing is known as free. I wanted to know the part number and call Ducati.

You need a better dealer..... The change in the heat shield is so well known I cannot believe your dealer is not fully conversant with all the details...
