I'm new on this forum, I figured I'd ask some questions before making a purchase on my new(used) bike. I'm looking a a few bikes that are local, one being a 2014 1199 S with 1600 miles that looks brand new, another is 2016 1299 on EBay with 1100 miles. Both owners want about $15k, would you rather the 1199 S or standard 1299?

1299. I was in your boat, chose the 1299. Love the extra torque and up an down blipper.

Depends the sort of riding you prefer doing as well i guess.

Judging from this forum and in general, i think the 1299 is more reliable... That is MY personal opinion.

Many will disagree, but I think the 1299 was a step too far for the V twin(L twin).

So the 1299 matches revs on down shift? This is the first I've considered, I've been looking for the 1199 S and stumbled across this 1299. Im going to let things play out and see which I end up with. There is a 1199R on EBay the really has my interest as well.

1299 any day of the week, month or year. I've had both and in my opinion the 1299 is a much better bike and more characteristic of the Ducati riding experience with much more low down torque.

1199R is a different beast and from what I've read from others reports doesn't make for the most friendly of road bikes.

Try to ride both the 1199/1299 and make your own mind up.

Get the 1299. The extra torque is very noticeable and the better DQS make it worth it.

I would personally take the 1199S over the 1299 base. Bren Tuning software update vill solve the jerky midrange and give bottom end rideability...

Get the 1299. There are pros and cons to both, so it isn't as straight forward of a decision as you would hope. But personally, I'd rather start with a better foundation and then mod the suspension/wheels myself.

Another point that wasnt mentioned is that the 1299 has the better geometry over the 1199. But to be fair, you can mod a 1199 to match the geometry of the 1299, so that isn't necessarily a deal-breaker.

My best advice though is wait a little longer and save some more money and then get a 1299S. Best of both worlds!

1199 is the best looking motorcycle ever created by mankind in the history of the world.

there, i said it. :D

the 1299 is the best looking motorcycle ever created, and that ever will be created, in the history of the universe.... :D

Personally aesthetics wise, I love how the 1299 has a slightly wider more tougher looking front fairing, how it had a 'nose' under the headlights, and the awesome tail piece with the 2 fins... I think they massaged the 1199 to be just right with the 1299. But overall, they're both beautiful bikes up to subjective preferences.

Actually, the 1299S Anniversario is the best looking motorcycle ever created.

Apart from perhaps last years Honda RCV.. The aero is ruining the look of the MotoGP bikes in my opinion.

x infinity! Those gold rims and paint scheme combo... plus the pics and vids of casey stoner riding one.... damn if I had the money!

All great advice! Thank you all for chiming in. I have been all over the place looking at bikes, a new 959 CORSE, to a used 1199s, haven’t seen the 1299 in person I had no idea they have a different apearance.. I live on Long Island so the weather hasn’t really turned yet, I’m hoping to see a few more bikes for sale soon. Seems quite a few fairly new bikes have had multiple owners, I’d like to find a one owner, “like new” bike for a reasonable price.

Another question for you guys regarding tires. What do you think of 4-5 year old tires on a bike with 1500 miles, should they be changed due to age? I couldn’t run 5 year old tires on my car no matter how new they looked they wouldn’t hook, even a 2 year old drag radial I felt a huge difference in performance.

I went through the same thing last year - 13' 1199R / 17' 1299 / new 959 Corse... I was gunning for the 1199R and 959 Corse, but for me 1299 took the cake and just felt better.
