1299s vs Gixxer 1k

I would pull on S1000RRs and 1199s at the track on my 07R1 often, out brake them in the corner. I had a lot of riders ask me about it, not realizing what I had done to my bike, and the fact it was around 360# in track trim. But I didn't have the motor built, but it was putting down around 169HP at the rear wheel.

You also need to consider wind resistance, rider weight, knowing your bike, etc. I know my R1 completely and everything it does, how it behaves. I am gaining that knowledge with the S, slowly.

I still say that my R1 would pull on the S if I took them out and compared in a straight line, and I would be willing to put money down that I would be faster at my known tracks on the R1 as well. Give me a year, and when I finish a few more mods, let the new wear off a little where I "don't care" as much about the bike, and I bet I will be faster on the 1299, but a tweaked bike, with a rider that knows the bike, and even a "slight" jump off the line at 70 MPH, and I would say another bike can roll on you.

1299 on stock form should be on the high 170 low 180s whp. a gixxer1k with the mods mentioned should be in the mid to high 180s range. given the bikes weight differences, it should have been a close race... it was more a rider race. im afraid that your friend is just a better rider than you are.

next time you race take all ur tc off and wheelie control off. that stuff robs power

People are so passionate about these bikes that cant realize or open their eyes.. the bike is slow, always has problems or defects.... japanese bikes are way faster and WAYYYYYY more reliable than Ducatis.

Yes, I've had japanese bikes before and I currently own a Ducati. I think its a piece of .... with awesome looks. That's all it is, a good looking bike. It is freaking HOT when riding, every time you start that ...... after going for a ride you have to blip the gas or it won't start (embarrassing when other people are trying to admire your "italian beauty" and want to listen to the engine and you are just struggling to start the ......), its super freaking slow in low-mid range.... but oh well.. that's just my opinion.

After I sell my 1199 I wont ever buy another Ducati ever again.... Every time I get on this forum to read comments/posts I find something that's going on with somebody's bike, always a different person... Not to mention the awful warranty (dealers not helping most of the times)

Hate me and say whatever you want , but its my opinion and it doesn't have to be yours.

Peace out!

maybe that's true.... but i'd say 90% of the people here do not race seriously or even do regular track days.... as an all around street bike and sporadic track day machine, the pani is fun as hell, heat and idiosyncrasies notwithstanding... of the above 90%, i'd say 2% max are even qualified to use all of the power of the pani or any of the other liter bikes out there... it's kind of laughable and insane when people say my hp4 is so much faster or whatever bike when we're talking STREET RIDING...... no one is using all these bikes potential on the street nor are they qualified to and if they are "pushing" with these bikes on the street then they're irresponsible morons.... the pani is a lethally fast fun machine, not a serious track weapon given what else is out there price-per-pony/reliability/weight-wise....

Here is the Dragon Lady still with the CW pipe yomping an GSXR. The GSXR's pilot is 20 kg's lighter than me, his Gixxer had a race quick shifter, pipe, flash and dyno tune (similar to the Dragon Lady) and he was full taps, I was not remotely at full taps. My bike made his look like it was standing still (and the Dragon Lady is much quicker now).

wow love this guy ive been saying this for years looks great thats it.

Hate to say it as well but I feel the same. With all the mods done to this bike it is awesome but I would be hard pressed to do another Ducati. Its way too much work to do what is simple with other platforms. Much like automobiles. The 458 Italia is a great looking car but if you want performance, reliability, support and parts, you get the Porsche. Its that simple. Italians are great at style. Not so much in the engineering or reality dept.

Why is anyone the least bit concerned about speed when we own modern day sports bikes is incomprehensible. 959/1000/1199/1299 Superbikes with RBW, traction control, wheelie control and engine power modes aren't enough? So what if a 1000 cc inline four is faster. What does it matter if your more expensive motorcycle does a 10.1 and not a 9.85 in the 1/4 mile. There is always something or someone faster! More often than not it is the rider and not the bike.

Racing in a straight line, not from a dead stop, is all about gear and powerband. If a stock 1299 were to roll race against a stock gsxr1000, both in the optimal gear, the 1299 should win, it is simple physics. Whether you win our lose a race between machines with so many variables does not answer the question of which bike is actually faster. Racing modified vehicles tells no truth whether which vehicle is faster, it just answers the question on who did more, did it better and applied it to the real world efficiently.

I think 2% maybe an over estimated

Here is my take on it. First of all, let's address the twin vs four cylinder. The twins disadvantage is that the big pistons limit RPMs that it can realistically turn. Anyone who understands hp knows that there are a few ways to make horsepower out of torque - remembering the old saying that an engine is basically an air pump. More rpms are pretty much what you need unless you go forced induction. The smaller, lighter pistons on a four cyclinder of equal overall displacement make for a better air pump.

Second, my knowledge indicates to me that the Japanese super sports are neutered as they come into the U.S. Heck, even my Ninja 1000 picked up 18 rwhp with just a full akropovic and nothing else. And that is verified on before and after dyno runs. And we all know that they are further neutered in the lower gears. Point being that today's tuners can pick up a lot of hp without doing any real engine work.

The Ducatis and BMWs are pushed much closer to the limits right as they come from the factory, so there is less ability to pick up 20 rwhp than a Jap bike. My guess is that the Suzuki was well tuned and that was the difference.

You know these conversations are useless and meaningless. But here it goes, all bikes are different inline 4, v twins, triples etc. you ride and race a bike to its strengths, not another bikes strengths. Watch GP or sbk and the styles are different between riders and bikes.

It really takes more than a few track days a year or a season of racing to get your head around riding a twin. I watched really fast guys on 600s and 1000s go backwards when on a twin. My advice is learn your bike really well, ride it, YouTube racers, and set it and yourself up to its strengths and you'll always be happy.

On a side note: I had a 2013 1199R and with the exception to the semi pro riders that would show up I walked all over everyone on every type of bike. But I've been riding/tracking twins since 2009.

Of course these conversations are useless and meaningless. So are these bikes for the street. But in both cases, they are fun. I don't plan to grow up any time soon, so I like these conversations.

At the end of the day buy what you like a small enjoy it. Everyone can get worked up over every stupid little thing. If you don't like your bike, sell it and get something different. They all have their flaws.

Guess I am the odd man out, I really enjoy riding my bike, feel it has decent if not good midrange torque even hauling my 290lbs around. HP is more than adequate for my level of ability on track..

Better midrange than my RSV4 & 10R that's for sure.

I love my 1299 without question. I was bested by the more experienced street racer is all. The guy wheelie'd for a solid 2 miles after our 8+ races!

Still, both bikes full throttle... it was disappointing to see him pull away. I'm 6'1, 190 for reference.

I'll hunt the guy down and get more details on his ride(and ask for lessons).

In other news, 175mph+ on a Ducati is pretty fun, but I'm not crazy about doing it again without a D-air on and a track beneath me! I had a zx14r that 160+ felt like 80.. Cadillac suspension on those damn things!

So question I would ask is, how important is it to you to have the fastest bike out there? If so, go buy the Kwacka H2. I've just bought the 1299S purely on the basis that I love the sound of twins, the torque and not forgetting the looks of this beauty! Yes, the S1000RR is faster - at least in a straight line - and I nearly bought one of these as it was laugh-out-loud funny to pull the throttle. But the whole experience was a bit asinine and left me wondering what I was looking for in a bike. I've never owned a Ducati before as I personally thought they fell to bits too easily (brother had a 996 that lunched it's own engine after 9,000 miles) but the looks, history and noise pulled me in with much more than simply being the fastest, lightest or greatest. I'm still running mine in so haven't yet had the pleasure of unleashing it but it makes me smile when I open the garage door, when I fire it up and when I stop to take a smoke and just stare at it. One horny lady.... Differences of point something of a second do not matter that much. That said, losing out to a Gixxer would piss me off!

I'll say this.. I was at a bike night before the races with about 75 other bikes all shapes and sizes.

Guess whose bike was constantly swarmed with people? Drool and compliments coming from every angle.

Nothing competes with the wow factor of a Ducati... and surely not a GD gixxer. People were going crazy listening to the snarls out of that Termi pipe. It was semi-celebrity status, and I did everything I could to be humble and answer the million questions thrown at me.

I got beat in a straight-line race. I understand it's not a drag bike, but it's untouchable in every other way.
