Hey Koen,

Amai. This is going to be a major undertaking. I can understand why you bought an R. Mine is coming in March. It is the myth to have an R and I plan to keep it for a very long time. It's a pity that they are not doing numbers on the triple clamps like in the old days with the SP. But times were different back then on homologation.

I admire your perseverance to built this super R and it seems you are pumping the price of an extra R into it in exotic parts. I chose not to track my R. If you fold it up on the track, no insurance. R gone. Instead of that I will have an extra Panigale built just for tracking.

Where will you track it? Zolder, Assen. Hope to see you around, so we can talk.

Hi Patrick,

may ba a wise thing to have both! my diva is a 999R ... pritty lady now she got the full treatment... :)
this is my last and 'mental' project that i want to be one of a kind...
i'm relying on TC and ABS to keep me from crashing and of course some common sense.
i'm not chasing new laprecords, just want to enjoy the riding and ambiance..
and prodding the project is at least 50% of the fun...

we'll def talk at Assen or Zolder.
I' absolutely adore Assen en will be lookinf forward to running on Francorchamps and perhaps some Spanish and french ones
and who knows, perhaps B harch , donnington and Silverstone.

i m of to Aragon and Valencia on the 999 in march !

keep me informed on your progress. :)

if you look out patiently , cost on parts can be kept in check... if you're carefull.. value is value... an FGR is an FGR...

step forward on the TCS

good news on the electronics front!

got it from CORSE :

a simple black box from Corse will fit into the standard R loom and adapt the activation of the TC to the stickiness pirelli slicks.. the outer measures of the slicks on the 16,5 rim are just a couple of MM different and so the only thing to calculate is the stickiness of the type 1 or type 2 compound..

this should be a bill of hundreds :p instead of the expected thousands (Nemisis later this year -) or 14K Marelli system.... ()

ps : there is a similar box for the Michelin tires...

The order has been given for a front, sides, seat and bellypan carbon race suit... should have it end of this month.

The fueltank is due end of march and many brake parts are in the mail.

te rapidbike race is on its way as well..

Good news about the black box!

Where did you order the carbon fairing from? Is it carbon or Kevlar - when I had my 996 SP, John Hackett gave me Kevlar fairing - was real nice - more flexible than the carbon.

What size tank and air box are going to do? I understand the RS bike has a bigger air box and a different (lower) tank.

the carbon suit comes from a local

manufacturer. if it's not ok, i can haunt him :)

the fuel tank is the standard one with the normal airbox..
in fact, a f a i k, the RS aibox itself isn't bigger but the airbox part in the tank is.

to compensate, the RS tank the is a bit wider to recover or even gain a fex pnds of fuel. The trays carrying the electronics on both sides and the faring bolt on directly to the tank..

i should know how much the RS costs and some more details shortly! :p

grtz

look what the cat dragged in !

great relief to get thses through italian mail.
they are pitty difficult to replace at a decent price..

SBK 320MM 6MM rotors
RACING 108MM P4 32/36 Monoblocco calipers

just to keep me out of the kitty litter !

Thats going to be a sweet front end!!!

Let the build begin!

so ! LET THE BUILD BEGIN!

just to put everything together as to triples (52/58) to fit the FGR100 forks, the brembo calipers on the forks and onto the disks mounted on the tire -shod wheels... just a first quick fit

now we can have the front axle made and some small nitbits to hold the sensors..

to stay in line with the Roche styling, it will be the gold disks that go on..

let me tell you : this feels good! :)

Wow that is going to be some bike when done. But why didn't you just start with a base 1199 instead of the R? Was it because of the engine mods that the R has?

why the R?

if you add it all up from base you must add

full termi system
abs + TCS
gps
dda
carbon bits
engine mods
swingarm adjuster
sprocket and chain

this does not come cheap either and is a load of hassle to get it installed well...

ABS and TCS are now getting to a point that they get so sophisticated they get really good. Not only ducati but BMW and APril also. it would be ludricous not to have those as it is what rules GP, WSBK, BSB, etc...

i also am very convinced that the R as it is is only at the start of it's development. expect to see some major gains made in the coming years as superstock racing will gain maturity. there are already special exhausts made for the R that will even be harder to put on a base. we hear from inside Alstare that the dev of the truly special parts has only just begun. the 218 whp ( with restrictors but WSBK Termi line) they have now will rise once they get better grade materials in that are more reliable.

having a platform that allows me to upgrade the bike as it develops will be on third the pleasure. 1/3 being looking at it and the other 1/3 riding it miles below its possibilities.. :)

this said : there are few bikes as good to start modding as a base. it is an truly fab platform and performance wise you can get one hell of bike for an S budget.

Who made the triples for the 1199? I need a set for my FGR 300 gas forks"¦ Thanks.

George

PS- I have the 1199 RS parts manual and the "black box" will only work with the Superstock wiring harness. The connectors and system is completely different. The OEM box is a Mitsubishi ECU (CAN) and the Corsa box is not.

George, did you need the manual to confirm that Ducati 1199rs uses or not bbs for traction control or the mitsubishi ecu!? ;)

My guess is that the RS does not use the Mitsubishi ecu but more than likely a motec m880 ecu or something along those lines. The control of a bike engine is fairly straightforward and most race teams use a programmable motec. The motec has a wiring harness that just comes out into a bunch of wires for you to figure out - so it will be different than an oem ecu.

My point is that the traction control modules from the 1199 RS WILL NOT plug into the OEM harness and ECU"¦.

point made.

I'm afraid motec ecu has not been used in world superbike for years now because of the high demands those bike have (M800 series is more than 10 years old ecu!).
Honda uses Pectel (Cosworth), Yamaha, kawasaki & Ducati uses Magneti Marelli, BMW uses Bosch and Aprilia uses it's own electronics based on marelli package.

Motec ecu is standard on BSB where all the bikes use the same unit with locked options for traction control, wheelie control, launch control, throttle blip on downshifts and closed loop fueling.

yep , i got them in black...
will use the 0 change excenters as it already has a 30° setting standard.

FGR300... waw... doshing out the full price then... wow.. doubles it almost...

thanks George!

ok, now this is interesting!

if this is the case, then i ve been misinformed by Corse. They were asked spicifically if the module would fit the R's loom. and the answer came back "yes". From what we hear the SS loom does not carry a ABS connection.

So are we sure that the module they talked about are the RS module or just a reflashed oem module..

in fact, initially the ecu carried 17" settings, and now there are also 16,5" settings. they just asked to ship the ecu back for it to be reflashed. it's on it's way now...

from what i read somewhere, the R's loom already carries more connections for a wider range of sensors such as suspension tensiometers. So perhaps the R loom is also different.

scary but interesting ! :)
Let's see what happens.

could you put up a partnr here?

tx again

George, i found the partnumber in the SS kit acc brochure.

just a thought :

woul be pritty crazy to have to swap for 7 to 11K worth of electronics to get a tire dedicated ecu to go from Pirelli SC tracktires to Pirelli slicks if all that is required is to change some static settings in an existing ecu module, no?

would be a bit like saying: "WEll, here is this bike with last gen ABS and TCS for racers and serious trackers but if you want slicks, dosh out 10K extra first... "

i can also imagine that the RS at 160K usd would still carry another level of electronics ( full marelli system i guess ) than the 40k R base..

this seems confirmed by looking at the (non oem or SS) dash from the RS and the round ( twist/screw) connectors we see, it is completely different from the standard square ones on the SS kit loom.

looking at the 013 SS list i have here, some reluctance could be in order as the PRO termi is not there and the revision lists states V0.0...

to be continued!
sure got my juices flowing! :)

tx again!
