Color n drive sells a kit for ceramic coating. 59
Spray on freshly clean paint>ppf>2nd spray>ceramic coat?
it’s just the only way to get all contaminants removed. Use fresh micro fibers and throw them out after this project

U can pay extra for the fancy Gtechniq Panel Wipe but ipa works excellent for me

actually double check and confirm that alcohol is safe to wipe down your ppf otherwise use that panel wipe product or whatever the film manufacturer recommends

True lol I'm gonna meditate all week in preparation. Around 250 for everything. I already have all the detailing supplies so that'll save a bit. Also I have been looking for a pitbull rear stand 100% sold out everywhere

pitbull sent me a rear stand last week. ordered it the 19th and it arrived in a couple days.

I like 432hz but its similar to my alarm on my phone. no clocks in my house except for the flashing 12:00 on the oven

Xpel only has its own solution from what i found. I will do a 50/50 mix iso to distilled.

That video also was very informative. Thanks for sharing it. I don't have any buffer tools. I've only hand buffed my vehicles.

@thomasmryan Which size pin did you end up going with for the pitbull? wasnt sure of what size to order.

This will do if ur not paying a shop $1,000 to polish/protect ur bike. I used it on my triumph (with patients) and all the surface scratches came out. After polishing I coated the triumph and now it looks wet. No need to spend $300 for the Rupes nano, another $400 for their 5 inch polisher...

but u have to polish it up a little or all those scratches will be preserved on display forever under the ppf and ceramic pro. Polishing is why I recommend a diluted isopropyl Wipe down b4 moving forward

@DucatiKev Ya I wont be spending a grand to have it detailed expecially from local vendors down here. Seems they only have people that are contracted with Xpel/Ceramic pro. No shops work on bikes here. A few of them are willing to try but I'm not taking the risk or being the first client.

As for prepolish. Which step would I repolish? Wash bike>Micro dry> Iso-distilled>Micro dry>PPF(on specific areas)/Ceramic(others)>Iso-distilled>Ceramic(over ppf)>Finish?

@thomasmryan Thanks Ill order this asap

Definitely wouldn’t let a car detailer “try” on my bike. Bike detailers know what they need to do

as for the process, it’s more art I think than science but thinking about it logically and laying out a plan to attack is the way to go.

Ok so here’s what I would do:

1st make sure u have a few days where u promise not to ride

Start by rinsing the bike off, get it wet. Then blast it with a stripper soap/detergent (NOT dish soap/dawn) this will get bugs and big debris off. I like the snow foam cannon on a pressure washer

Then do a decontamination like Iron Out by chemical guys or whoever else, get the bike perfectly clean. This step is very important.

Then blow it dry with a leaf blower, then wipe it dry with a big soft clean towl or shammy. But spend a good bit of time with the blower or itl drip drip drip.

park it in front of a fan for the night (ocd)

tape the black plastics and other areas that u don’t want to get polish/compound residue on

Now begin polishing. Good lighting and an extra flashlight is very important
at this point you’ll see why I’m up ur ... about polishing. The polishing makes the bike look perfect, NOT THE COATING! Although the coating does help hide some light scratches as it fills them in a bit

polish polish polish. Give it a brake either go eat dinner or wipe the residue off with a dry microfiber and sleep on it

at this point, inspect. It Will look better but does it look perfect? It probably won’t look 100% perfect cause we’re not sanding with 1,500 and then 3,000 but the Surface scratches will either be all gone, or u still need to polish. I’m not sanding. Not happening, but this vid is still Very revealing

Ok Is the bike perfect looking? IPA (diluted Isopropyl) wipe down followed by a dry towl don’t leave any marks behind
Take the flashlight and carefully inspect all painted surfaces

all good? Time for PPF. Lay it down, get it perfect then dry off the bike and just look at it

last step for this project is going to be the actual coating. All this excitement abt coating ur bike and it’s less than 1% of the job. I know it’s bs but if ur not going to polish, don’t bother coating
You gotta get that paint and ppf ready for coating so again with the ipa, dry it off maybe ipa again nice and thorough then dry real quick. Should be ready

U bought CeramicPro and I would recommend doing this project ASAP. The chemicals deteriorate in the bottle. I would say the chemicals should be used within a month of receiving your order

humidity does affect this project so if u can bring it literally into ur living room, do it and tell everyone not to touch it.

Completing this project in a climate controlled environment would be the determining factor if I am going to do this myself.
Last place u want to be is in a hot humid garage with a fan making It windy and bugs buzzing in ur ears and flying in ur eyes.
This project can be very enjoyable and rewarding but you have to go into it methodically.

u should have seen my wife’s face the first time I renewed my Triumph’s engine oil in the family room

At 3:12 they show how to really inspect the paint

Once this is done, only foam wash ur bike with soap safe for ceramic. The bugs will take one wipe with the mit and be completely removed.
Only after ur first wash will u understand why super slick “ceramic” coatings are so supreme

NEVER wash ur bike in the sun

I’m sure @HKMP7 could publish a series of books on this subject. These are just my theories and thoughts abt how to best go about the process as a consumer suffering with OCD

I’m fascinated with these cars and bikes that make for better artwork than some of the ugly “popular” art today.
These machines deserve to look their best at all times and for ppl like me who ride the hell out of them, rain or shine, super slick coatings are necessary

With my R1 the weather beat it pretty badly and lacking on cleaning my chain I had huge issues later on. After this purchase I will have a better understanding of detailed refinement.

Not only is it going to be a heavily ridden machine but also finely detailed.

Spent some time cleaning the chain after the ride home getting that factory crap off. And still have some residual left. 100% better after.IMG_20200522_161558_949.jpgIMG_20200522_161558_954.jpgIMG_20200522_161558_956.jpg

For V2 guys... cut outs are a bit different than the "old" 959. Seat for an example...on to the next "fix" for the damn heat. I know headers would help but that is an expensive fix haha.
How did the under tank pieces fit? I know the engine covers are the same as 959. I would be cool using dynamat to fill in spots that are off.

I actually didn't install it. Returned it.

Sounds like I got a project incoming lol. Ordered ceramic pro and ill wait for the other member to call tankslappers for the xpel to order that.

That's me. I won't forget either. I'm like an elephant...

@RM3851 Definitely, I might have to just buy the v4 kit and work around the tank. My challenge now is just to find a suitable location to do all this work.

Had a 5 Hour ride on the v2 today toured Lake Tahoe. Had a first experience with the bike dying once at a light 217 degrees on the tft. Idled sluggish at that point also. I also need to clean off these bug marks/wash the bike.

The ceramic will be here on the 29th estimated. I also might by a ft length of xpel just so I can cover up the vital areas afterwards also.

It died? Oh no we’re gonna be having problems with the EVAP can on the new bikes now too

I removed it from my 1299 the same time I had it tuned and it’s never stalled on me since

Ya when I was at a light towards the end of the ride. The bike hovered around 1k-500rpm bouncing. Did a few cycles and died. It started right back up however and no issues at any other light from there on.
