Anyone make a call to their dealer to find out how much the 2nd service is going to cost? I just got off the phone with Ducati San Antonio and it will be 980+ parts. 10hrs worth of work. I guess I will check the manual to see what that all includes.

I believe Ducati San Antonio has a reputation for being "problematic"

Whoops, I goofed up! Second service... The big ticket items are the valve and chain tension checks; notice checks. I've been looking at that little cap on the side of each cylinder housing, looks like an access door for the chains. Unless something is off, I bet they open that up check the tension and move on. Naturally they will also check lube points and torque values. Also push software updates if necessary. 10 hours seems high, but I haven't looked into what it takes to get into the engine like that.

i think 10 hrs is enough to take the entire bike apart to the bolts and nuts, clean all, then put it all back together...twice :)

You're not that far off. My engine is being replaced at the moment and book time is 9 hours.

This is the problem with dealers and recommended services, it's where they make there money in the service department.

The shop I bought mine from is half that (7500 mi). It only includes checking fluid levels and tightening bolts. So $980 is insane. But for the 15K, they charge $1100.

2nd service (7,500 miles) doesn't really involve much more than first service (600 miles). 10 hours of labor sounds high for 7,500 miles service on a bike that's running fine.

Dealers like this drive me nuts.... Shafting customers is unacceptable... we should compile a list of shafting dealers and shame them...

My first nominee...

Checking the valves isn't even listed in the manual???

valves are checked at 15k miles, as is the remove of the sump pan (and header pipes) to clean the mesh filter. This is a big service. (maint specs start page 237 of US owner's manual)

The 7500 mile service shouldn't be more than $300 at most so Ducati San Antonio either doesn't know the maint schedule or they misspoke.

Or maybe they are just crooks...???

well..........there is that, I wasn't just trying to put a positive spin on things. ;)

Understood.... But I have read a few complaints about this dealer on other Duc forums .. so I tend to think the worst...

Sorry, missed those! So that is why I was told $1100 for the 15K by one shop. That other shop may think they were quoting the 15K, I would ask before slamming them.

I emailed them... just out of curiosity... GM JMarotta said "expect 10-12 hrs Labor on the 15000m service" at $98 an hr is only $1176 + parts..... ....... joke.....

Saw a bike getting valve job, not sure how many miles. But the forks and engine attachment was hanging on a cable and the rest of the bike was on lift. Pretty much everything besides rear swing arm and wheel off of bike. Hope their not giving him a valve job at 7500 miles.

Those hours are not at all out of line for the 15k service. Just to clean the mesh filter entails removing the exhaust to get the sump cover off.

Add doing the valves, etc, yep I don't see that as out of line at all.

It's why you see a lot of 4 valve ducatis for sale when the mileage starts to approach a major service. 15k is wonderful, on my 996 valves had to be checked every 6k miles and also recommended a valve check at the first 600 mile service. And this was with the non testastretta heads that we have on the pani, a lot tougher job.

Newcomers to ducati don't know what they've missed!
