Nice article but it sounds like Ducati paid a highschool kid to write it haha. I'm happy the 899 won, but no need to trash the "liter" bike version. There are other pros to the 1199/1299 besides 200hp+.

Thanks for the share :)

The reviewer seemed to think that an 1199 under throttle scaring the crap out of you is a minus. I'd call it a plus. :)

Owning a 1199s and a 400, and having owned an 848, and riding my 1199 on the track (fast group) and to commute (city), i can see the point the reviewer is trying to say, and agree to it.
The 899 is better as an overall (multiaspect experience, ownership cost, etc) than the 1199.
When you pick certain aspects, though, the 1199 is more likely to excel (or extremely suck at). :)
Thanks for sharing.

Just remember Michael Neeves is a ...... who's job is not to tell the truth, his job is to sell bikes.

That's all he is doing here is rhetorically selling this bike.

You mean to say if someone writes a positive article on something it might influence someone else's decision toward a purchase... Ya don't say.

I never understood the logic of the 899 vs. 1199 arguments.

If I wanted practical, I would have bought a 49cc scooter. I wanted a supremely powerful beautiful machine that absolutely makes one feel alive with the twist of the wrist. 1199. Done.

If I had to do it over again, I would have spent more and purchased the 1199S. ;)

Wrong, but thanks for playing.

Will you claim the article is not rhetorically biased?

Do you know Micheals work and his personal bias?

49cc scooters aren't practical unless your definition of practical differs from mine. Wait... Could that be?

I've had a good amount of seat time on an 899 and one thing's for sure, its a hell of a lot better everyday street superbike than the 1199 is. For most of us though we didn't look for practical, its the reason most of us have a 1199 on the street. If we were practical and defined it all the same then we'd all have soulless Hondas, ride within the speed limits and never do wheelies (I can't thing of anything worse).

Its a public forum, not your personal playground.

Don't know don't care... Like 99% of the people who will read that article. It could have been written by Joe Blow or Hunter S. Thompson, its going to have the same influence regardless of the fact that you (and a small number of other people) know something different.

Rhetorically biased? This word... I do not think it means what you think it means. I don't see the question hes not expecting an answer to. Maybe my public education is showing through.

.

Or maybe you don't know lol ;) Im well trained in rhetorical prose.

Don't get your nuts in a vise brother. It isn't a big deal. I don't think you honestly put much weight into into what a rag states anyway.

The 899 has many good qualities, and it comes down to personal preference, does it not?

I remember arguing the 899 angle when I had my 848, and they were decent arguments. 899 is a great bike.

What makes the 899 a better street bike. This is a serious question BTW. I have not ridden one, and most of the comments I read seem to say the 1199 is hard to handle all of its power. Let say you only use 100 hp on each of them. Where does the 899 excel?

Having ridden both a lot. The 899 is better and tamer for the street.

1. You put the power down and its planted, no herk and jerk jekyl and hyde feeling which is great for the street.

2. Its 100% manageable power thru the rev spectrum. The 899 rev is perfect for the street. The 1199 up higher is crazy fast. Like, you miss the street name you needed to turn down fast.

3. Takes bumps a lot better. Philly and area roads are like off roading on a bike, you cant avoid it here. 899 flawless. 1199 will jar your spine.

Just my input. Being said that also. I prefer the 1199. Same reason I jumped out of a plane in the army. Thrill, excitement and balls out power.

Yep... But without the plane jumping thing, that's all you.

I was torn with one verse the other. As a better behaved street machine the points you make are spot on for the 899. I am not well behaved and the 1199 suited me better.

That's the other part of the equation too. Personality. Does your personality, riding preference etc match with the 1199 or 899. Mine matches the 1199 which I can only describe as MANIC! The 899 has a slight personality disorder, but the 1199 Is full blown Sybil. Love it.

Up to 8K the 1199 has power more equivalent to an 848 - which I remember reviewers stating when the 1199 came out, and which I personally felt going from an 848 to the 1199. On the street I'm not going to rev any twin over 8K anyway. For me the 1199 was perfect - 0-8K works great on the street, 8K+ is track territory.

These reviews that act like the throttle is an on/off switch mystify me.

Most people in here would prefer 1199 (lol, extremists?), but that's not what the majority would say if they have to choose one to buy. 899 is both easier to get familiar with and lighter on the pocket. We need to remember these reviewers don't have years to review these bikes; they only have a few days.
Ducati is still a bit harder to get used to, unlike the IL4 litre bikes (hence we often lose out in shootouts).
You get opinions based on where you are looking at, usually.
