Just some facts guys

Hmmm,

Some facts to help this thread, this weekend I rode both my 1199 and 1199s back to back, 300kms to start running in both for racing next year, both vibrate, yep, just like every twin I have owned, no more or no less, the standard feels quite a bit different to the (S), things vibrate loose, I went round both of them when I got back and tightened up a number of little bits... In 94/95 a 916 was cutting edge and they broke almost every race meeting, but when they ran it was great racing...

Now!!! we raced a pair of R1s over the past few seasons, with a run in the 2011 Australian endurance champs (3rd in superbike thanks) but my point is this, after 8 hours of racing/riding things were falling off, fairing brackets, rear shock remote res, nut from the bottom of the clutch leaver... the list goes on... if you truly want to understand cost Vs expense, Vs above acceptable maintenance buy a Lotus... things fall off and break even when they are sitting in the workshop under a cover!!!

Bikes are value for money, Ducati's are made with passion, owning one is life changing, racing them is a privilege.

My advice is this, get your duke from a good dealer, get to know them, dont be shy, ask for advice and a discount, shop on the web, speak to people who race them, get advice, run good oil, buy the right loctite & use it. Enjoy your bike and see it for what it is.... some people spend a life time hoping to own a Duke...

"PM" means Preventative Maintenance, every Marine should know that.

Go spend 6 digits on an Italian car and you have the same problems. These vehicles are exotics and things happen. Ducati does not have the money, facilities etc to test like the big Japanese makers. If you want to own an exotic, whether it be 2 or 4 wheels, be ready for a few problems, it's the nature of the game. Carry on...

hahaha.... I get a least 1-5 thumbs-up when I ride this thing... I didn't know I'd be such a celeb... kinda like it.

GREAT READ B1six... I rather enjoyed that.

Agree about the thumbs up bit. Happened to me a couple of times recently.

People in traffic wind down a window, ask about the bike etc

I never had a bike where people did that before.

+1 Pretty much sums it all up......nothing left to say:eek:

marketing + trolls

that's what happens on the web....otherwise how can I explain the fact that every single person I meet on the road asks me so many questions after the usual 5 minutes praising the bike?:D

Leave the trolls and the marketing guys alone...the WSBK will tell the truth next year  and all these "wanna be test riders" will try their best to hide the .... they dumped this year.

BTW my second ducati, lighter than the monster which was half the displacement

If I listened to sport rider or cycle world I would only ride a Suzuki. I buy what I like. Ducati isn't for everyone and Im fine with that. Personally the 1199 is the best bike I have ever ridden, and that's good enough for me.

Finally someone said it. It's what I always tell my friends with Jap bikes (who definitely all want a Duke), if it doesnt do it for me in the crotch area when i see and hear it, then i wont buy it. same goes for my car. everything give crap at some stage. my bike has 12 000 kms on and 2 years old, but it looks brand new, if not better. i love dukes, and thats that.

Agreed, if it doesnt make you happy to look and be on it, your wasting your money. For me it is Ducati, my old Camaro etc,

great comments everyone

I didn't know Honda made an Elsinore 175....learn something new every day! All I can say is I wanted an 1199, I bought an 1199 and I love my 1199!

It was called the MT175. It was an enduro model They made a 250 model as well. While it looked like the CR ELSINORES it was a far cry from the motocross model cr125 and cr250.

I have never owned a bike that got so many compliments. Every where I go bike people and non bike people will stop and talk to you about it. Definitely different than what I am accustomed to in riding sport bikes. Besides all of that, I couldn't picture myself on any other bike. I have had mine for 2 and a half months and have put a little over 4K miles on it. There hasn't been one time that I get on it that I am not smiling ear to ear. I love my Duc and if you don't, who cares?
