Just some facts guys
Hmmm,
Some facts to help this thread, this weekend I rode both my 1199 and 1199s back to back, 300kms to start running in both for racing next year, both vibrate, yep, just like every twin I have owned, no more or no less, the standard feels quite a bit different to the (S), things vibrate loose, I went round both of them when I got back and tightened up a number of little bits... In 94/95 a 916 was cutting edge and they broke almost every race meeting, but when they ran it was great racing...
Now!!! we raced a pair of R1s over the past few seasons, with a run in the 2011 Australian endurance champs (3rd in superbike thanks) but my point is this, after 8 hours of racing/riding things were falling off, fairing brackets, rear shock remote res, nut from the bottom of the clutch leaver... the list goes on... if you truly want to understand cost Vs expense, Vs above acceptable maintenance buy a Lotus... things fall off and break even when they are sitting in the workshop under a cover!!!
Bikes are value for money, Ducati's are made with passion, owning one is life changing, racing them is a privilege.
My advice is this, get your duke from a good dealer, get to know them, dont be shy, ask for advice and a discount, shop on the web, speak to people who race them, get advice, run good oil, buy the right loctite & use it. Enjoy your bike and see it for what it is.... some people spend a life time hoping to own a Duke...
