OK, so everyone pretty much universally loves the new up-maps :)

For me, I find the throttle definitely requires a lot more finesse in 195Hi than before, as its made the bike significantly more wheelie prone.

Not a bad thing, but it highlights how noticeable the changes are :p

How are others finding their new 1199 ;)

Sorry for the newbie question, but what is an "upmap" (I don't own one yet). I'm familiar with rain/sport/race maps. Is an upmap something different?

Up map is uploaded to the bike when installing the Termi slip ons or upmap2 for full Termi exhaust.

Thinking about a BMW 1600 GTL myself for next year

the earlier last year delivered models received a software update for the ECU regarding fueling and power characteristics.

all newer models sould not require this.

Thanks!

I'd be glad to share my thoughts on the BMW. It is my first BMW after many, many years of Japanese bikes. I've owned two GL1800 Goldwings over the past eight years. I've also owned a Honda ST1300, Yamaha FJR1300 and Kawasaki Concours 1400 so I feel like I'm pretty well versed in the Japanese touring and sport/touring bikes. BTW, during the last eight years I've owned at least two bikes at the same time - the ST bikes as my primary bike and Goldwings for two-up riding only.

So far I really like the BMW a lot. It looks like it will replace both the Golding and Concours which I have both of for sale right now. My Ninja 1000 has become my favorite ride though. I'm thinking about a Panigale as a shorter distance Sunday morning bike when the Goldwing sells.

Just swapped my K16-GTLE for my Pani, only coz I wanted another Duke. Me n the wife did a tour to Misano last year on the BM and it was fantastic, if ever I go back to touring, the K16 is what I will be buying.

I have a 2013 so I don't think I ever had the "bad" upmap. I admit I was scratching my head the first few times I rode it and wondering what everybody on the forums was complaining about. :)

No complaints about the mid-range or the behavior at low RPMs, no white smoke at startup, no hard starting, etc.

I sure love my new up map for my Pani Tri with the Termi slip ins. Mid range grunt at freeway speeds is much improved. Well worth the bother

That sounds about right. I bought mine towards the end of Sep and I haven't had any of the issues I have read about with the RPM's, white smoke, etc.

i got my up-map at the end of year service, so i don't know if i'll be able to tell since im not riding it for 6 months +/- . i was told you get a little more in the mid range, so that will be interesting. AND i def love hearing about the wheelie prone more now than ever.

Seriously, wheelies on the throttle in 2nd gear are now the norm, 3rd requiring just a little aggression. It's quite a madman

Hi,
Yes we do like it, but how can you talk about "195HI" that does not exists anymore in the new Map? You should not see it, but just "High" instead.

My New 1199 is still difficult to drive as fast as my "old" S1000RR. This is all I can say.
Cheers and happy new year !

I have no issues but if there is more midrange out there, I'd like to be in on it!

Whether its just me or not but my 99S seems to be getting worse around the 3-4,000 rpm range. On cold start-up it also seems to surge all over the place. Nothing to do with the rider of course!!! :D Got mine in May of last year and have just over 2500 miles on her. I'm taking it in for up map tomorrow. Can't wait to see / feel the difference.

Seriously, that sounds like a French only update. Guess the nice chaps at Ducati thought it was rude to push 195 in your face, when you're only allowed 100

Either that or rename them Rain, More Rain and Even More Rain :p

I think that the term 'UP-MAP' is confusing people. I believe I'm right in saying that Ducati have effectively re flashed the ECU, this applies to ALL bikes irrespective of whether or not you have Termi's fitted.

The UP-MAP then sits on top of that for those with the Termi systems. That was what I was told anyway, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right and I did wonder if that term had the potential to confuse.

However, from what I understand, each bike carries 9-maps:

Standard - Wet/195Lo/195Hi
Race (slips)- Wet/195Lo/195Hi
Race Evo (full sys) - Wet/195Lo/195Hi

This makes sense, as theoretically, it would allow owners to change exhaust configuration, with the bike ECU switching to the latest map, once the dongle unlocks them.

Smart hey :)
