After The Up-Map

I see this has been asked before but is there a way to tell which software (up-map) is currently being used without taking it to the dealer?

No I don't believe there is, only a dealer with the diagnostic software will be able to tell you. If it hasn't been done then they should update it automatically on your next visit, takes about a minute I'm told!

Seriously, wheelies on the throttle in 2nd gear are now the norm, 3rd requiring just a little aggression. It's quite a madman

can you be a little more specific? where exactly do you feel the power really kick? for instance let's say your driving down the road at 50mph 2nd gear and your around 4500 +/-, what range can you twist that throttle to feel the snap of the power band? i only ask so i can compare in 6 months when it comes back out.

thanks again

Hah! And yes xbox, French. & Japanese 1199s have HIGH, MID & LOW modes-- Per page 122 of the user manual. Sorry France & Japan (& soon to be California if the ....... have their way....).

Seriously, that sounds like a French only update. Guess the nice chaps at Ducati thought it was rude to push 195 in your face, when you're only allowed 100

Either that or rename them Rain, More Rain and Even More Rain :p

I rode out yesterday and had dealer install the new upmap or ecu reflash or whatever we're calling it. Not talking about the upmap that comes with termi's...

I have stock pipes (and plan to keep that way for now).

I noticed a decent improvement in pull above 4k. Still just a little sluggish if you are cruising in 6th gear around 60mph for example. But I just drop 2 gears and she pulls like a demon.

I don't think they can necessarily do anything about that scenario as it's a race bike and just isn't geared or designed to pull hard there.

That said, it does seem to be improved in mid's.

Supposedly the new fuel mapping opens the throttle body a bit sooner to fix the mid range.

It also supposedly opens them sooner when starting the bike to prevent hot-start issues and also to help starting the bike in general. I must admit that I had neither problem so no impact there.

Overall, I'm happy with the new mapping and would say it does improve the bike's performance. I wish I had a before / after dyno...

Jarel, why don't you hook us up with that?? :)

After it was installed I immediately noticed a significant improvement in how smooth the bike ran (especially at low RPM), mid range power (power everywhere really), and the sound of the engine.. I think it's a significant upgrade, however it did nothing for the "hard starting when warm" issue my bike has..

Sorry, I couldn't hold back the child and laughter inside...

I believe you're correct with your statement regarding maps and dongle, sir!

It's more the torque than the power IMO.

Example, pull out of gas station, quick blip in 1st to around 7k, into 2nd at what +/- 4k, open throttle with no more than mild aggression and the front lifts under acceleration. Now it never did that before.

Also, same stretch of straight rode I always ride, few undulating bumps, nothing to cause upset. Now 3rd and 4th hard acceleration lift the front through the midrange.

Important for me to add that I'm carrying additional Christmas lbs here, so if anything the bikes performance should have been dulled :D

Up map loaded today and only rode it home down the freeway and a small amount of 30 mph zone but what a difference in smoothness of power. No 4000 rpm surge and gave it that in line four feel. But still has the aggressiveness. Didn't notice increase in power or loudness. Will have to check out the wheelie ability this w/e. if only to smooth out power delivery this upgrade is well worth it.

NICE!! cant wait to hammer down that throttle!! thats funny almost everyone here or not can not DENY the hard acceleration out of gas station after fill up!!

thanks

My understanding was that the most recent 'up map' or ECU flash from the mfg was in November, thus more recent than August.

Can anyone confirm this?

Wow! Sounds impressive...I can't wait to take mine in but unfortunately due to work I will be away from my Pani till April.:(

What mode were you in? My mid range has definitely smoothed out after the up-map but it doesn't lift up for me in 2nd like you described and I'm 170lbs. I was in race mode also.

Rode to the dealer and told them what I've been reading on the forum. He ran my vin and sure enough there is a recall to flash the ecu. I was on a different bike so we couldn't do it at that time. He said just call ahead and I'll ride in and they will plug it in. Can anyone tell me how long this upload takes. I have no complaint concerning the performance of my bike. I hope the upload doesn't .... anything up. But if it improves the midrange grunt it'll be worth it
