getting hot under the collar here. . .
Since I started the thread. . . As i indicated earlier, I have no real interest in the matter to be operating the group buy or whatever. So I just passed it along to anyone else who may be interested. I'm interested and its going to cost me somewhere around 4k. (I'm told $3,999 to be a bit more exact). Perhaps if a bunch more people get on the list, then it might come down a bit, but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen or not. Though I have heard several people are interested and have contacted them.
I think its a good deal from a reputable company and authorized dealer. It also happens to be the pseudo official tuner that Akrapovic is recommending to use. Rexxer/Redline has done two other of my bikes and both run much better than before. As someone else has posted about their SF - it is/was a killer tuned bike with their mapped ECU. So that is a plus. I like their exhausts and am going to buy it. End of story for me.
In regards to vendors or Shift Tech - I have no problem with them coming in with useful information. Since this thread seemed to have diverged a bit into pricing, he gave his opinion and some inside knowledge. Ironically, he carries Akra and wasn't lobbying or even remotely suggesting to buy from him. So - given that, I have to say we should treat his post outside of bashing and of providing information. Also, since ShiftTech has posted and provided information on the forum as a contributor rather than 100% as a vendor, I'd be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt (I've mentioned this in other posts as well). Take it how you want. Fair disclaimer - I've been a shift tech customer before as well and I think I still have an item on order from them.
Re: MM - never been a customer. Know they offer decent prices. Have had an acquaintance be burned by them before, but that isn't to say other customers haven't been burned by others. So can't comment there. But to me - and most people probably recognize that I know quite a bit about these things, I want to get accurate information and speak to someone knowledgeable about whats going on. Especially when it comes to tuning the bike to what I want. Some vendors can do that - most can't. And thats where I put some value whereas others may not.
So I guess it comes down to this - if you're hunting for the absolute best price you can get the Akra Evo exhaust only, you should be able to find it somewhere. You can also probably piece meal it and get the ecu map/programmer separately later. If you're looking for the exhaust and the tuned map/programmer that goes with it - you can get a pretty good deal right now. Even if you get it the exhaust at the aforementioned lowest possible price and get delivery, you can still add the ECU map/programmer later - but then you'll be right back (or potentially higher) than the total cost of the deal we're dealing with now.
I guess the proof is going to be who gets delivery of this exhaust and when, right ? We'll see who gets it, where and when (and potentially how much) then we'll know a bit more.
