Anyone into adventure bikes?

I had a 2013 R1200GS - fantastic bike. Really one of the best bikes ever, there's a reason they sell a lot of them.

However, none of these big bikes are actually any good for true off road riding - for that I take my wr250r. Ended up realizing this and trading my r1200gs in on a Multi. I miss the GS but the multi is the better street bike and I don't take my main bike off road enough to justify a big "adventure" bike.

I'd go over to the advrider forums if you really want to do some research, honestly, this is not the place!

Not one bike fits all . You have to consider tank size and fuel range the capacity the carry luggage and comfort in the saddle on big days . The KTM 1190 R is very capable as a dirt bike compared to the BMW which is heavy and having a 19 inch front wheels compared to the 21 inch .
My last big trip which went from the top of Australia to the bottom was 80 % dirt covering 7000 km with all types of terrain being hard packed dirt to sand to rock and deep water crossing . I could not imagine doing a trip like this on a small bore dirt bike .
The

Yeah I have been hanging out there. I'm just wondering of the opinion from the guys that ride sport bikes as well.

That's a really great point and something to consider . I was thinking about the needs of a sports bike rider and what would make them happy on a adventure type bike and I really think the bike still needs to exciting which is why I said the BMW was boring .
It was not fair on the bike as they are really great bikes but they are not exciting or lively like the KTM range .

There are lots of YouTube clips . I also had a KTM 990 adventure bike years ago when I was doing enduro riding and had a KTM 450 EXC at the same time and that bike would go where the 450 would go if it would fit .
The current 1190r is even better .
My last trip was only a month ago when we did a 4000 km trip to Tasmania . We had two 1290 Super Adventure bikes a 1190 R a Pikes Peak Multistrada and. KTM 1090 Adventure Bike .
There was a lot of twisters on this trip and I got to be honest I think the 1190 R was the best bike out of the lot .
I love my 1290 it is amazing motor and really comfortable has heated seat hand grips electronic cruis control electronic suspension but I still think my next bike will be the 1190 R it really is to me the best all rounder .

Ya I've now seen quite a few, that guy can ride the bike like a 250! Lol. And that's exactly my point about feedback from sport bike riders, I'm looking for a bike that will excite me, and it looks like the 1190r might be it.

it's been said before and I'll say it again. Ducati Multistrada - GREAT bike, keep it on the road. "Enduro" mode is laughable. I don't even bother with the "multipurpose" tires anymore; mine gets Diablo Rosso Corsas. It's a sport touring bike, so might as well treat it like one.

Very curious about the Multi Enduro. The R1200GS Adventure is a mighty tall yardstick to measure up to.
