Aprilia RSV4R Factory versus 1199

anyone been keeping up with MCN on those 4 bikes??

I checked it today and saw the S1kRR HP4 Carbon took 2nd.

the 1199R was 1 second faster....to be honest I was surprised....

but now I sit here trying to come up with a plan to go from my base to an R even though I know I cant ride either to the potential....lol

Isnt it weird how almost none of us could probably put in the lap times the rider from MCN put in on those bikes but we still want and love them.....
its funny but im just as guilty of it..

I have just sold my base and bought a R model . Will be fitting the superstock Termi headers to this one so an looking forward to the comparison .

we all know why your Pani will take an extra nasty depreciation hit WAf ;)

you may want to get a link pipe for your HP4 or even consider the Shorty Akra -- that exhaust barks like a mad dog! I was literally scaring bus drivers with it!

huge congrats! enjoy!

LOL no depreciation, not selling it?!

I'm keeping the BM standard except rear sets, carbon tank trim.

I hear AR make a system for it? :D

WAf i implore you to look into the Akra shorty! Just look into it please. keep an open mind and a well plugged ear :D

and hey you haven't ridden the HP4 yet so you don't know what happens to the red cunty lady with that fancy plumbing...

I had the RSV and the S1000RR.

Was seriously rethinking the pani as my track build, due to all the issues we're all quite familiar with, but after working them all out/getting all the parts updated, and throwing this bad boy on the track a few times... It's definitely a "no brainer."

I'm keeping this baby as my track weapon.

May not be the heavy-weight favorite, but its riding characteristics and more-than-sufficient-performance puts a hellaluva smile on my face everytime I hit the track.

If it's about pure performance in getting the ultimate "cheater bike" for the extra tenths of a second, then get the APE or the BMW.

Otherwise, enjoy what you ride.

True..but an all new model is always a gamble in the first year or so.Sometimes they get it right ..but usually there is teething problems.Refinement on an aging design is not necessarily a bad thing. If the 1199 doesn't show any promise in WSBK..that redesign may come sooner than we think.

An interview with a top Ducati manager said that there is no such thing as "Untouchable" in terms of design. he pointed out that even the venerable trellis frame has to go away and other things may also be changed if necessary. If the Panigale continues to take a beating in the wsbk, perhaps the v twin will go away too and changed to another configuration.

Back to topic:

The Aprilia is undoubtedly a very good bike but I can not understand the looks of it. what are they trying to convey with the triple head light display? To think they are forcing it to other aprilia models. I just do not like it.

IMHO rsv4r has the killer sound, killer handling but the looks is not up to it.

Yep, 1 Liter V4 for the WSB series:eek:
We will have to wait for it though.

Thought it was posted before. There was also a big caveat to the whole comparison btw:

The Aprilia, MV Augusta and BMW were straight out the box onto the track. The 1199r, however, had been setup by Ducati specifically for that track. So it's not a valid comparison in my opinion.

But I think almost every review is worthless. What a skilled test rider or motorcycle reviewer with years of experience can do on these bikes doesn't mean chit to me. I can't replicate their efforts. I don't have the skill. So the fastest bike Hodgson won't necessarily be the fastest nor best bike for me. In fact, based on the majority of the ride reports I've seen, it definitely is not.

I liked my RSV4 Factory very much, especially at the track, so competent and able it was. While I haven't tracked the Pani, I prefer its ergos (more in the bike) over that of the Aprilia, and the Pani seems more maneuverable to me, stability a toss-up. So many other comparisons to be talked about (motor, power delivery, trans, etc) but they've been discussed plenty. I'd love to ride a HP4 at some point, but at the end of the day, they're all great bikes to me. ;)

I have the answer, get all 3 of them.

Debating with hypotheticals is just that . Your safe with your hanger .

I've got to chime in and torture you one last time Wilkson. There is nothing hypothetical about it, the RSV4 is the proven better all around bike...get over it man. Your one of those guys that will take anything positive in an article or review about the bike your not in favour of...and say it's meaningless..but in the same breath..if a review is positive in favour of what you like..well then it's gospel. Forget the lap times...then...fair enough. You're gonna tell me and the people on the forum the 1199 is a better street motorcycle and daily rider...cmon..you know it's not true. The Aprilia is a way more liveable motorcyle, and you know it. Reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt..I totally agree. However, there are too many to say the Pani is less than great as a street motorcycle.Even a broken clock is right twice a day. There are people on this forum, that can't live with the bike..they all wrong too? Be a little subjective and not dismiss every opinion other than yours. Not everyone is going to like the same bike and there is brand loyalty and all that stuff...I get it. I guess all the positive stuff written about the RSV4 is meaningless cause Wilkson in Australia says so. High level racing means nothing...only Wilksons "feeder" series in Australia means anything. Get over yourself buddy...the Pani is a flawed bike..on and off the track. I'm pro Ducati...I spent my hard earned cash on the 1199 and I can call a spade a spade. I've had both bikes and I'm not saying everyone should like the Ape better. The duc is the nicer looking bike and there is something special in ownership of a Ducati. But to sit and say it's a better racer or street bike is total horse crap. I know that you know that to be true but are spewing crap and can't come to grips with it, so I'm no longer reading the post, save you're breath.
