BrenTuning Flash Development (Tech Talk)

Tuneboy is only as good as the tuner. Nothing more, nothing less... No canned maps to download. Take the bike to a real Dyno tuner and let them have at it.

I'm at the point where I don't think I would be able to trust anyone unless when I buy their tune and flash tool, I can actually read the stock map and tuned map to understand what has been changed. Too many shady tuners out there and without visibility you don't know what to believe. I've been tuning cars since the TPI solder a UV erasable chip into the ECU days, then LT1Edit, now HPTuners. This software keeps people honest, as anyone can look at the files and know if you are full of BS or not. The last thing I want to do is learn how to tune a ducati on a brand new bike, but geez the options seem bad. No wonder people pay $6500 for an exhaust that comes with a "factory approved" tune.

As for TB being slow, that doesn't even make sense to me. If you buy the tuner, have full access to the tables, the bike tune is as good or bad as you make it, resulting in a bike as fast and reliable as your tuning ability. That has nothing to do with the hardware used.

My only hope is that when the hardware is out that truly is able to read the ECU (looks like maybe TB), that these professional canned "tunes" get read, compared to factory map, and people truly confirm you are getting what you paid for and there is a stop to this BS. When did the world move away from science and facts to "its what I say it is".

The question here is, unless I completely missed the boat on tuning, you need to be able to manipulate data parameters to make changes to an engine management system which means you need to see it. Who has the ability to extract and look at the stock V4 map? Is it a WinTax program? You say take it to a good tuner, ok what tuner currently has ECU level programming access to the Siemens Continental ECU on the V4?

I will preface this by saying I know next to nothing about tuning. Being an IT professional, that saddens me. Someday I will take the time to learn.

Tuneboy has access to the ECU, and the Dyno tuner uses TuneEdit to manipulate the map. You buy a key that is married to your ECU and the tuner can then do their thing. I cannot recommend a tuner, but I would guess that map tables are map tables and manipulating them through one program like TuneBoy should be similar to manipulating them through PowerCommander editing software... You may need to bring the laptop with TuneEdit to the tuners shop

I think we’re all on the same page here and I’m no tuning expert but I’d like to think I’m able to feel the difference between a poorly (factory) tuned Ducati and a well tuned one

I guess the best thing to do here is transport one to a “trusted” tuner and let them have at it while we watch them like a @Hawk and learn as much as we can

TUNE BOY IS JUNK!! Trust me on that.
I mean, i'm less likely to take negative review between business competitors seriously - Of all my research and because I'm in Australia I'm planning to go with TB due to the product they offer suiting my needs more than any other. This will include tuning at their facility in Sydney when the opportunity arises so I'm more inclined to offer a realistic feedback (when that happens )of what their software may be able to offer with correct application.

Ok well I’m good, sounds like the ECU lock is a non issue on the V4 and that viable tuning platforms are available. Done

I don't know, and therefore don't trust you. But i know this TTS and Carpenter Racing both use TuneBoy to tune superchargedmotorcycles (TTS), land speed record motorcycles and streamliners(Carpenter) and extreme modified motorcycles(Carpenter) I will trust their experience and knowledge based on reputation alone above your word.

I have access to the stock mapI have nothing to lose .

Maybe they’ll join the conversation @BrenTuning

for the record, I am very pleased with my BrennTunning flash on my 1299

I am also interested in shipping a V4 to @///SLR-TUNING and flying down to observe.
Maybe we can plan a meet up so u can watch a pro tuner work his art

Anyone in the MIAMI area?
Would anyone fly out for a couple days?

We’re gonna have the quickest V4s in the US

I don't trust you

smart

Not gonna be free thought if you want a full flash all out on MR12 etc. Ijs.

that’s exactly what I want!

And maybe permission to make a documentary for the nonbelievers, who won’t be able to make it to our “Tuning w SLR” Dyno day. Everyone will benefit from a look behind the scenes in the “secretive” world of a motorcycle tuning expert

Bren and Troy have such a bad reputation

I was just happy to find a “flash at home” solution with no downtime

now...

they (Brenn) wanted me to “drop off” the bike for 2 days for a $500 Dyno tune, which means drop it off and get lost

And @///SLR-TUNING invited me to come check out his shop while he tuned my bike

THAT MEANS EVERYTHING. Can’t wait!

I think there is a lot to think about when it comes to tunes
1 what’s it for
2 how easy is it to use
3 price

1 meaning is it for straight line pulls or for track
2 is it a hand held or is it take the bike to a dyno
3 bren is around a grand which is steep but travel to a good dyno plus shop time/dyno pulls can add up real quick.

I know everyone has there own options and opinions but you really have to think about your 3 options. For me I live in the middle of Wyoming so to take my bike to a tuner would cost thousands!!! I also ride more street/track so I’m looking more for throttle control and smooth power versus big numbers. For me I went with bren for the simple fact that I can have it ordered and delivered. Also I can run my aftermarket exhaust without error codes or issues with bike performance. I can also go to race fuel as easy as a quick flash. I also went with them for the fact of going back to stock for updates on the bike without worry.
Now if you have the options to go to a tuner with easy it would make sense to go that route... but like most of us we live in places that we don’t have those options. I have to drive 5 hours each way just to get the oil changed on my bike at the dealership. I can do them but I can’t turn off the annual service or oil lights so 10 hours it is. At least with the bren tune there is the possibility in the future of turning these lights off my self. Just my thoughts

2 is it a hand held or is it take the bike to a dyno
just a couple more options for numero 2

2: handheld, Dyno tune, install new ECU, send ECU out for flash, or add on hardware to “trick” the ECU

Good write up. Bren seems to deliver on the ride ability, removing throttle twitch and overall smoothness and refinement across the whole rev range

definitely the easiest way to go unless it locks your ECU
