Build Threads and the current state of the board

Well I see that there was a bit of hostility today and I cannot say that I disagree with it. I have been a member here for 5 years and this place has changed quite a bit. I suppose it is a sign of the times and seems to fit nicely with the continued neutering of things. When I joined there were guys playing with 12K SBK forks, 5K brake calipers, RS motors, custom machined parts, doing their own wiring harnesses, building their own carbon, aftermarket clutches and gear boxes, building motors etc now its videos on how to wash your bike and how to take a fairing off and turn signals, mirrors, gas caps, shiny bolts and even stickers and decals. Granted the skill level of males in general with regards to mechanical things has seen better days. I have seen guys on this board petrified to turn a wrench on a bike but certainly chime in with their opinions on how to do things. I get it. It's a public forum and people like to be heard especially with the anonymity that the internet provides. Everyone here routinely winds there new V4 up until the ----- appear on the display on the street bla bla. In high school, we "built" cars. We had shop class. "Building" back in the day meant starting with parts. You built your motor, transmission, rear end, interior, body work etc. Thats a "build", buying a car off the show room floor and putting tires and wheels, floor mats and a stereo in it isn't a build. It's accessorizing at best. Maybe you just start your thread with "another accessorized V4" and go from there. That way you don't draw fire from members that can and have actually "built" something. As Mick alluded to, most of the builders and tech nerds have all left for the most part and stay in touch via other means. There just wasn't any content here anymore. There are a plethora of questions that have been answered ad nauseam that somehow failed to find their way to the search box and a .... load of posts of modifications that have been done over and over by former members long ago. Maybe its just me but I tend to try and not post something that someone has already posted and done better than I did it. Try the search function, if you have something tangible to ad, by all means. I get posting a pick of a freshly built SL motor with all the goodies being readied for installation or a custom made carbon front end but a couple of bolts in a package? a clutch slave that we have all seen a million times? a stock V4 off the showroom floor? Really? Is this the level of excitement that now exists? Everyone is accepted here and there is no discrimination from what I can tell which is how it should be but I definitely see that this place is at this point fairly lopsided with respect to content diversity. We tried to get the mods to build a "nerd nest" where the geeks could go and have their little space without having to navigate through the poo but it didn't go over. Sorry for the rant hope no one is offended, well not everyone anyhow. Carry on with those "builds".
Same thing happened to Jesus

happy patriots day y’all

big things happening

I totally hear ya Rogue wish we could have the board back to how it used to be real bike builds and lots of good info but these guys getting these V4's as there first Ducati and calling them "builds" have taken over this forum like termites eating away wood. We definitely need to get back to reality around here and start updating our build info and so fourth.

I'm on the side that wants this forum to go back to the more technical side of things. I suppose I'm part of the problem. I haven't updated my build in awhile, but honestly it's because I haven't done anything in which I would deem post worthy. i'm hoping to wrap up a '16 Monster that I haven't posted about. I'll start on a Triumph Moto2 project that I'm quite excited about (managed to snag some Kalex bodywork). I suppose I could throw that in the General forum.

I just need flights to resume so I can make it home. I've been stuck across the pond. It's looking like May 20th at the earliest.

I severely modded my GT350 today with a new air filter. Years ago I planted the rubber trees for the seals to the air intake and dug my own oil well to get the materials for plastic and years ago grew cotton plants for the filter media too. Nobody in here is sand casting their own engine cases or masking their own rods and pistons from scratch...yes scratch, that means you dug the ore, you refined the metal, you got the sand, you did the machining. Let people do what the .... they want to do with their own ..... You make guitars, did you grow the ....... wood? Did you cut it down, then dry it properly then make blanks? Did you wind your own pickups? Make your own magnets? Mine the copper for them, refine it then machine it into hair thin strands? Did you make the frets? Did you sand cast or machine the bridge? Give us a break.

That sounds waaayy too hipster/instagram.

I had two 911 C4Ss Porsche’s before I got the 350 to change things up. Happy now ......! I’ll get another one soon as I get more garage space, we’ll I have it now in Mn but not here in DC. I’ll severely mod it with Coco Mats and post in here. Come to think of it I’ll get some for the 350 too.

Hilarious, you guys need to lighten up. I'm on endo's side as far as this space is concerned, but people love to share and talk rubbish. That is the heart and soul of any community, its a dry somewhat dull technical forum without it but a forum full of schoolgirls comparing makeup and having a bitch session is a waste of time. Last I looked there was a mechanical and technical subforum, maybe the admins need to make a hipster vaping beards and bikes section for the insta crowd.

Want to know how far the rot has set in then check this;

Hey I washed my bike the other day, got out a bucket, some random detergent bottle out of the laundry but you wont see me posting that .... on the youtoob!
