At the IMS this past weekend, when I asked the Ducati North America rep about where oh where is the oil filter, I was told the 1199 is utilizing an oil cartridge system that slides in and out...

Does anyone have any experiences with this kind of system? What are the pro's and con's?

Pros: After changing you can inspect the actual filter without having to tear open a canister.
Since it is all internal, there's nothing hanging off that could be ripped apart by road hazards or a crash.
Should be cheaper.

Cons: The design of some of these systems makes changing it messy and difficult.
If someone else works on your bike you won't be able to tell at a glance what kind of filter they put on it (or if they even did).

As far as filtering the oil itself, neither design is better than the other. A lot of motorcycles used to use internal canisters, btw.

Yeah, Rotax, KTM all use the internal filters. Which is cool if you can get a Scott's for it then you would just have to remove, clean and then reinstall! No more cartridges to throw away!

They are easier I think

Once you get the technique down easy change.

The previous filter were a btch if the factory had a gorilla installing them to take off
