DQS not working on downshifts

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I got a ride in today and all is well. I reset the TPS, set the tire calibration to default then did a tire calibration. It never missed a down or up shift all afternoon.

I reinstalled my Cordona QS and reset the DQS adaptives. I'll give that a go my next day off.

Not sure why people are trying to reset TPS on anything 2012 and newer. Everytime you turn the ignition on the TPS resets. Oem shift sensors are junk throw them in the trash get a Cordona or any true strain gauge unit 99% your problems go away.

Not true at all.

While the Cordona is a better QS than the stock microswitch style, it in no way addressed the problems I was having. I do think it had more to do with the tire calibration value since I tried the TPS before. Not until I reset the tire calibration to default then doing it again did the problem go away.

So since the TPS is reset ignition on I am guessing you been hanging out at the local Duc dealership service department way too much. Tire calibration? Ok yeah knock yourself out man good job.

Each to their own I guess, but I tried the Cordona and found it worse than the stock unit. I've got an SLR flash, maybe they adjust the cut times.

Plus, the stock QS is £82 from Ducati, so I've got a couple spare...how much is the Cordona!? And, from reading posts, it sounds like you have to be very careful how you install the Cordona?

It makes me angry that people who bought $30k supposedly flagship superbikes from a premium marquee in the year 2022 are fighting a quick shifter sensor. This is old tech that has made its way to the cheapest of bikes circa 2015 people! It is supposed to just work! What's next? I need to clean my carbs every month?!?!?! Human civilization has moved on and this tech should be taken for granted..... (except if you bought a $30k ducati)

I have a feeling you're the guy who drinks tequila and wants to fight everyone. TPS adaptives are reset on ignition but the ability to reset it is a menu item in the ECU? Ok.

I think guy were melting the square electronic module. The air duct on the 21+ bikes gives you a nice little shelf for it.

Same here. Got the bike out for a bit and it worked perfectly every time.

I tried swapping back to the Cordona, but I'm just not a fan of it. I find the stock QS works better. If I could change the force needed to send the shift signal on the Cordona, I think it would be better. I don't think its a kill or blip time problem. Its like shooting a rifle with a hair trigger by using your left foot which has a boot on it.

Interesting. That is exactly how I feel about the Heal Tech QS I have on my XDiavel. I sometimes touch the shifter without feeling it and it explodes with an unexpected shift like a hair-trigger. I guess I will try the tire calibration on my V2 and see if that fixes the QS downshift issue.

OK I have a new issue - After the recent tire re-calibration and TPS reset, my AIM Solo 2 DL is not pulling gear position into the data stream anymore. It used to, and I used to analyze it, but newer sessions recorded recently do not have gear position. Gear channel just says -0.

Interesting. I wonder if the failure to change gears with the QS happens when the gear sensor is not sending the correct (or any) info. Maybe the bike doesn't know what gear it is in or thinks it already changed gears. I wonder if AIM would have an opinion on what is going on with the loss of gear info after a tire calibration (and the QS now working correctly).

The signal is always getting sent as far as I can tell. I ended up fixing the problem before I rode with the OBDStar hooked up and logging the sensor. I just did it while at idle.

The QS gets a +5v input from the bike along with a ground. The third wire is a signal wire which goes directly to the ECU. At idle, there is about a +2.5v signal going to the ECU. On a upshift, the signal changes to +3.3v and a downshift is +1.6v.

The issue with the failed downshifts is that the bike is ignoring the signal. Offhand, I know an activation of the clutch microswitch or throttle input would make the ECU ignore a downshift request but there's something else making the ECU ignore it, intermittently, which is the frustrating part.

I need to contact AIM support and share my data logs with them. Here's the chronology of events:

1. I reset TPS, re-calibrated tire. DQS working well and dash is showing gear position.
2. Did 3 sessions. AIM recorded gear position correctly in the canbus channels for first session, and midway through second session, gear channel got stuck in 3rd gear. Aim simply shows me in 3rd gear everywhere after lap 2.
3. Different day, different track. Did 2 sessions. AIM did not record any gear position in canbus channels. Gear channel stuck in "-0" for both sessions.

I didn't piece together exactly what happened in #2 and #3 above till yesterday when I pulled all the data from both days to analyze.

Now that I am thinking about it, here are some more data points. The cable that connects the diagnostic/DDA port to Aim Solo supplies power and carries canbus channels to Aim to overlay onto GPS position data. I have verified that it is still supplying power. I need to verify if its supplying any other canbus channels - I thought I remember seeing RPM still being fed correctly.

If its supplying power and other canbus channels correctly and just not gear position, it can't be a faulty cable?
