Hi,

Just wondering who has ordered the 1199r, I have my name down for one but not sure whether I will go through with it as for me it does not seem like a R model of the past so disappointed from that aspect by maybe I am missing something but from reading the spec sheet there is not a huge difference from the s model.

Input appreciated

Cheers

I have ordered one, it will arrive around february or March.

The thing is the Panigale S is already good. It is already light , fast and already loaded with ohlins suspension, so outdoing it will be a bit hard. Honestly i thought the R would sell for around 40,000$ dollar range (in my area add additional 60percent). and I was expecting it to have the front shocks similar to the one installed in the Desmosidici.

Not a huge difference? if it promises to have 15% more torque in the midrange, that is a huge difference. Now the 500rpm more on the red line is really worth it specialy if you are going to pass inline 4's in your track's long strait.

Titanium Rods, definitely worth it.

What I am focusing on no wis on how to improve my skill. It will be embarrasing if you ride an R and the 600 guys will pass you in the corners. this is where I will put my attention to.

Desmo

I agree with you I expected the bike to cost circa $40k but I also expected it to be like the 1098r in which the motor was a big jump for the other 1098's not just a updated exhaust ecu and titanium con rods, maybe I am missin something and should be jumping for joy that its a relative bargain or else the other models I the series are overpriced

Let us face it, the 1199 , even in its base form is already a wonderful bike. ON the world Ducati week several months ago, Troy Bayliss personally told me that the Panigale S is so good that he laps 1-2 seconds faster compared to his race prepped 1098r. So as you can see, the Panigale is really good.

outdoing it will be very hard. so right now, the titanium conrods, customable swing arm is what Ducati can provide for now and truly those two mods will not be worth 40k$ to any one. but at 30,000$ with full exhaust , carbon bits and Titanium rods, truly it is a Bargain!!

a Panigale s costs 23,000$, now if you add full exhaust it costs around 3,500.00$, the carbon bits around 1,700$(if you put DP parts), Titanium Rods 3,000$. Race windshield and other bits maybe 400$. To repogram your bike to have additional 500rpms, I do not have an idea. Labor for Titanium Rods? I do not know how much but if you buy an S and customize it to be like the r it will cost around 31,600 excluding labor. So the price of the R is really to hard to pass up.

With my skill level I have to admit I can not even maximize 70 percent of the Base Panigale's potential but I am will still get the R and enroll in track ridding classes or spend more time in the track.

Again if you are the type who loves to customize/modify your bike, the R is a bargain.

Ahh, but if you are one that has bought an S and put 1000's into it, you would be much better off adding the rods and programming, rather than take a hit on the S depreciation.

I got one on order.;)

Quick question for the US buyers:

I am thinking about putting my deposit down this weekend on the R.

For those that have bought the Tri were you charged extra to install the exhaust or was that included in your price? Or, as I have read, does DNA comp the dealer for exhaust & up map install?

I'm not sure if my dealer will want to write a contract but I would like to have all my negotiating points set prior to committing.

TIA,

Joe

You guys know its just a letter on the side of the fairing, it wont make you faster.

^Oh hell, leave'em alone! If I had the moolah I'd get one right away and convert my base into a trackbanger

You guys know its just a letter on the side of the fairing, it wont make you faster.

So true it hurts.

Its just like top-end push bikes - you can spend thousands to shave 50g from the frame and single digit gains from various components. Doesn't make you faster or stronger

The R used to be the holy grail of Ducati Superbikes!

Race ready, no nonsense, hard as nails, or for the well healed, simply the fastest 2-wheeled Italian bike .... that money could buy.

IMO, this is not the case with the 1199R.

Essentially for me, Ducati now make 3 versions of 1199 - RED, WHITE and TRIC

Difference between them is marginal, with arguably the biggest differentiator being the Tric's paint job.

They should have Corse'ed the R .... but maybe that'll be for the next variant.

Anyhow, choose and be happy folks and thumbs-up to those that want an R :):)

You guys know its just a letter on the side of the fairing, it wont make you faster.

But R comes before S in the alphabet. Doesn't that automatically make it faster?? I think it is a law in quantum physics or something. Lol!!

Kidding aside, I'm really not that concerned about going faster than someone else. There will always be someone faster on less expensive machinery. I don't buy bikes because the magazines say one is faster than the other or because a pro can eeke another 0.001 second at Abu Dabi from the HP4 vs the Pani. The point is the R may not be as exclusive or special as past R or SPS models but it still represents a reasonable value for what you are getting. I would have bought an S and put the full system on, re-geared, and more than likely put on the carbon bits. The Ti rods and aluminum tank are almost a wash with all factors considered. At least that is how I am justifying it...

Just kidding guys, I have had a couple of R's and I wont buy one again. The resale is not worth it for 1. In the past the R had so much more to offer. I just find it hard to buy a R that has the same hp as a base model. With that said the S and Tri have way more trick parts than ever. It is a balance, I would rather have the R be 40k with forks and wheels maybe more than just bolt on carbon covers. It just seems like a S with some tidbits.

I think that is the point of this particular R model. It's just an S with some more parts. Nothing revolutionary.

I was pretty disappointed as well when the final specs were released. I was hoping for something *more*. But the more I thought of it and the more I tallied up the parts included on the R it seems to be a better value for the guys that would probably duplicate the bike using an S model as a starting point. Suddenly it started to make more sense to me. As far as resale I fully expect to loose 40% to 50% within the first 4 years. If I was interested in making money I would have gotten in on Facebook's IPO. Oh, wait a tick...

I dunno, at the end of the day any bike you get is an awesome machine. Especially in today's age. My only requirement anymore is that it makes my wee heart go pitter-patter (and that it be an Italian twin or V-4). lol.

:D
