Ducati 1299s vs bmw s1000rr 2015

Actually I think the Ducati powerband is more flexible and street/mountain road friendly. If Ducati was king of the track don't tell Jonny Rea because the ZX-10 screamer 4 is winning

The WSBK's have about as much in common with our bikes as my truck has in common with the Gold Digger Monster Truck.

I knew that was coming, but the point is the high rpm four cylinder powerband is not a liability on the track. Even with an extra 200 cc, Ducati still struggles to be competitive at a high level.

This year, with the EVO rules in place the current WSBK machines are closer than ever to the "street" bikes. Last year, the SBK 10R and Ape were closer to satellite GP machines. I found it telling that when Baz switched from last year's 10R to this year's Forward Yamaha he found it was only the tires that were the biggest difference.

The Panigale's power delivery doesn't seem to have any advantages over the I4s. It has zero low end power which can make slow corners difficult. It spits out a ton of power in the midrange, but it's difficult to modulate it and TC setting are extremely important. It either lacks or barely equals the topend of the I4s.

1299 has pretty good low end relatively speaking in my book, but clearly the days of Ducati twin dominance in WSBK are over.

i have both one weekend is bmw one weekend is ducati. totally different bikes totally different feel. only thing thats the same is that they are superbikes.
Hi Mark tell me the true about this bikes, I'm going to spend a important amount of money, which is better? You have both motorcycles you know exactly which is the one, more reliability more powerful more fast less cost.

With all respect to ducati owners, finally decided to BMW S1000RR 2015 and I'm going to say why. Much vibration in the steering impossible to look back through the mirrors due to vibration, a lot of heat below the seat and legs, very narrow, air everywhere, drafty, the seat is tilted forward forcing you to accommodate all the time to not touch the fuel tank with your parts (you know what I mean), due to the exhaust position (just on the middle of bike and below) when you stop, the gases go up to the body and helmet, slippery footrests and finally I didn't like the engine sound. I think it's a great bike, very light, easy to drive, power all the time from the 1000 rpm to 12000 rpm, spectacular design but I think that the panigale was designed only to the tracks. Thanks to all!!!!

Everything you say is a personal opinion ...but the pegs??? I don;t see that at all...... Exhaust gases reaching your helmet also sounds a bit weird But hey.. Enjoy the S1000rr great bike!!!

That's what I felt, "most" of the bikes have the exhaust in the back or backward, maybe that's why I noticed the difference.

Can't go wrong with either one, I prefer the power delivery on the 1299. The S1000 is nothing below 6k and then it's turbo power - fun, but not the best street or mountain road powerband in my book. Especially on a road with plenty of tight switchbacks, the Ducati is going to be faster. The 1299 also feels incredibly nimble and light and I love the narrow profile, the S1K is more of the old school chassis designed around the GSXR1000. Engine sound - it's different, and I was ready for something different. The $1000 in accessories is a sweet deal BMW is running right now - I was tempted

I do like the S1000RR and I have narrowed my choice down to that or the 1299S but your assessment is a bit different than what I was experiencing. I like that the 1299 is slimmer and the seat feels like it's flat and not pushing me forward. The grip vibes on the 2015 S1000RR I rode were insane but not that noticeable on the 1299 (maybe just a different frequency / rev range). I could do without the heat under the seat on the 1299 but the S1000RR frame was extremely hot around my legs and feet - considerably more so than my 2013 S1000RR. As for the pegs I think that's the first time I have read anyone with grip issues on the 1299 ones.

I am still on the fence about which bike I am going to go for so I totally understand your thoughts - it's just interesting how subjective the whole experience is.

One thing I will say about the '15 S1000 - the black one I rode was absolutely as smooth as silk. For longer trips, the S1000 is a more comfy place to spend time, but the 1299 is a bike that stirs passions whereas the S1K is more of a Japanese bike on steroids with generally better fit and finish

Plus I love looking at the 1299, it's a work of art. The S1K looks good in a berserk sort of way, but won't turn any heads

Ok it's time for another break in ride :)

On the roads, 1299 all day. But I'll guess the S1KRR could be better (and legal) to race in a SBK class than the 1199 (1299 has too much displacement) as it apparently is easier to set up.

I was lucky enough to try a HP4, and I was really disappointed by the lack of low end and mid range grunt coming from my 1299. And the electronic aids was really slow to react, and waaay to intrusive compared to the Pani.

That said, I'm really curious on how Guy Martin will do in this years IOMTT with BMW factory backing :)

S1000r was one of the 3 on my list, but (call me shallow), I can't get past the look of a drunk chick that just smashed in the face with a shovel. Not to mention sub par performance except on the top end where it becomes maybe equal.

The R1M would've been my second choice, still kinda fugly, but at least symmetrical. And the cross plane is where it's at for the I4.

Good choice and I agree with all of your points. I live in Northern California where we have some of the best canyons and famous race tracks. The Pani is just too rough for the street and I prefer riding my 1098. On the track, the Pani shows her true colors and you can get off the bike as soon as you pit so you won't bake. :D

I agree with you about the stock pegs. They are very slippery and are just as bad as the ones on my 1098. I tried filing X's in them, adding tread tape and just ended up getting Lightech's.
