1199 pegs do not = 1299 pegs, I never have an issue with them at all

Different yes, but IMO didn't offer that much better grip. I'm talking about grip where if you grab the peg with your bare hands and twist, it'll draw blood.

I finally decided by the 1299S, after putting them together and manage them, I decided on the 1299S. The reasons: 1. much lighter 2 more agile 3 more powerful at low revs 4 best design 5 better suspension the beautiful board etc etc. I finally came to the conclusion that all bikes all generate heat, all vibrate some more than others but at the end all. I feel more confident with this bike in all aspects, only to ride a panigale you will understand the passion for the brand. Thanks again

You got the super-sticky rubber that lets you park it on walls and the ceiling too, huh? Nice.

Just bugging. Great choice, as it's the one that obviously spoke to you and made you have the biggest smile. As much as the stats/comparisons/reviews influence our decisions, you can never Google "what bike will put the biggest smile on my face based on what speaks to me", and get an accurate response.

For some it's the s1000rr, for some it's the R1/M, for some it's the [insert anything here]. As long as you chose that bike, you made the right choice.

aleviac13, you mentioned the importance of reliability (we all want that) and BMW is the least reliable according to a consumer test study. Go over to the S1000RR websites to get a feel for what problems crop up. Keep in mind complaints will hit the boards hard and quick but the satisfied majority are quiet. Test ride is important, as you're finding but not necessarily conclusive! Perhaps buy both? Interesting you liked the BMW sound better. The Panigale sound is what sold me.

I've never had an issue with my S1000RR, and I've had two. I still have mine (although it's up for sale), so I've done back to back comparisons.

The BMW is smoother and easier to ride around town. I've done 600 miles in a day touring on it and my back didn't hurt at all.

The 1299S is much easier to throw around corners, and I feel the road much better. The BMW is like having ... with two condoms on. A set of $4000 Ohlins probably would have fixed that.

Ducatis are imperfect machines in how they ride. And it makes them far more engaging and fun. The S1000RR is flawless to the point where it was so boring that I rarely took it out. I always went for the Multistrada, or even my wife's Monster, which is lowered and adorned with Hello Kitty stickers. That's when I knew I had to replace my superbike with a Ducati as well.

My 2013 s1000rr has ohlins and BSTs and it still feels like I'm in the rain with a raincoat compared to my 1299s.

So is every track day oriented bike I've ever ridden. The harder you setup the bikes, the more quirks they're going to have.

The base model Japanese sportbikes ride great on the street. But their mushy worthless rear shocks stink at the track. Can't have it both ways I'm afraid.

The BMW is still boring to me. Even compared to my obsolete 1199, I'd still pick the 1199.

With all respect to ducati owners, finally decided to BMW S1000RR 2015 and I'm going to say why. Much vibration in the steering impossible to look back through the mirrors due to vibration, a lot of heat below the seat and legs, very narrow, air everywhere, drafty, the seat is tilted forward forcing you to accommodate all the time to not touch the fuel tank with your parts (you know what I mean), due to the exhaust position (just on the middle of bike and below) when you stop, the gases go up to the body and helmet, slippery footrests and finally I didn't like the engine sound. I think it's a great bike, very light, easy to drive, power all the time from the 1000 rpm to 12000 rpm, spectacular design but I think that the panigale was designed only to the tracks. Thanks to all!!!!

So I am confused... you first decided to get the S1000RR then you decided to get the panigale... did you end up getting both or something?

No, finally decided for the panigale! At the end of the day I chosed the panigale just before delivery the money to buy the bmw!

Your complaints in the earlier post are a good list of all the drawbacks of the 1299S (though I don't have a problem with the pegs being slippery), though some of them I find to be features (drafty, narrow, engine sound.) Now that you have the 1299S, please confirm that despite all that stuff...the bike is amazing and puts a smile on your face every time you ride it! Sometimes when I complain about my bike burning me, people ask why I spent all that money on such a thing, and the answer is obvious once you ride it.

Enjoy your new bike!

i forget explain that the bike that I tried was a 1199 not a 1299, the sound I don't like to much the pegs now are better and my last bike was a s1000rr 2011

Note to self: The bikes I'm comparing and considering buying should be the ones I test ride.

Best thing about the panigale is you feel the speed because the bike feels alive. I loved the BMW but it got boring the way it was so effortless.

I will always go for the Ducati, the L-twin motor is incomparable to anything else. The wow factor and look factor on the Ducati is also above S1000RR IMO.

I've ridden a S1000RR, it felt like a very well made Japanese bike, it just kept giving me that feeling. i hate it. Felt cheap.

The Ducati, will always get stares! It's like driving a Ferrari on the road.

After owning an 1199 for 3 years I was planning on buying the S1000RR this time around. I was able to ride a 1299 and S1000RR before buying. It was a tough decision because the pros and cons are pretty equal. I went with the 1299.
Coming from a racing background (with cars) riding the 1299 is like nothing else. If I had to describe the BMW in one word it would be "smooth" The Ducati would be "angry!" I can see why there are people who prefer one over the other and feel strongly about it. It depends on the person. For me, I like the excitement of riding a pissed off machine. The engine character reminds me a 700hp racing engine... All or nothing.

Interesting perspective - for me it was kind of the other way around. The "all or nothing" shrieking top end of the S1000RR is addictive, but below about 8k rpm there isn't much going on. The 1299 is a big tractor in comparison, so much grunt everywhere, but when you hold that throttle to the stop it feels like a true superbike. I wouldn't say quite as exciting to ride as the S1000RR but it's a satisfying (and more mountain road friendly) power, if that makes sense

...but my dad keeps telling me the 1299 "sounds just like a Harley!" :p
