I'm actually surprised its cheaper than the previous top of the line. Not sure why Ducati is actually leaving money on the table there - because anyone willing to pay 65K will more than likely be willing to pay 72K. .
In terms of new vs used - depends on what you are planning on using it for. You might think there is value - but in reality there might not be. . . If you're buying to let it sit there and you think its going to appreciate in value - your sorely mistaken (though some will because they've always done this). If you're planning on buying it and you ride the hell out of it - then you're going to get very good value. .. Because like the Desmo, if you had bought it new and rode it hard for 2 years, you had everything taken care of - and those repairs were/are/is expensive. . . People buying the desmo used, may have saved 20-25K off the new price, but the cost of an valve/piston will easily blow that number to hell in a hand basket. . . how hard are you willing to ride your out of warranty bike ? If you were under warranty, the only thing you cared about was not to drop it. You didn't baby it or anything else. .. and that was the beauty of buying a new bike under warranty. It really depends on what type of materials are on the bike - and whether they are one-offs like the desmo, or whether its still utilizing a lot of stock 1199 parts.. If its one off-s then there will be significant risk buying a used model. If its homologation, then probably not so much.
And honestly I don't see how 65K is ripping people off. They are creating 500 units (though I think that number may change) at 65k. Thats a total of what 32.5M in total revenue. How much in actual R&D, marketing, boondoggles, warranty costs, etc is part of that 32.5M ? Not sure they'll even make money on it. Its more about embellishing the Ducati ownership experience for them to do this every few years because the reality is that at most they make a few million on this if that much. Work the numbers backwards and you'll see.
