seriously?

Seriously. Let me ask this question - have you ever bought a numbered Ducati bike, like new or used ? (as in the true limited edition bikes that they number) ? If so, you'll understand some of the Ducati ownership experience that this falls under. If not, and you have no intention to ever do it - then you'll always be one of the others that stares at other owned Ducati limited bikes when they show up at stores, meets, etc. If thats the case - then guess what - you aren't their target market. . Their target market is (at current) - 500 people around the world willing to pony up 65K to buy their newest/fastest/lightest bike that they produced. My guess is they will not make much money on this if at all - but most of it will be reaped in the hype and cachet of the bike that it will bring the brand.

But seriously, this bike isn't a commodity item and it isn't a large production bike It's like when Ferrari puts out a crazy car that is limited to x number of cars. Just because you have the production version doesn't make your bike any less of what it is (or you for that matter).

Anyone who is a Ducati enthusiast knew this was coming. Ducati always make a limited edition numbered bike every few years (sometimes two in one year). . The panigale was destined to have one as well (and no the "R" is not it - it was just a mass produced better spec bike). Being critical because of the new model or because its out of ones price range (or willing to pay range) just doesnt make sense... next year (or the year after), there is going to be another bike that will probably be faster/lighter/etc etc as well. . It might be a production model, it might be a limited homologation model, or it might just be a collectors edition model.

I just want to know how you get on the list to get "The Call" from DNA? Are there gold tickets wrapped inside Ducati leathers? I also imagine that you'd get a personal tour of the Wonka Ducati factory....loll.

Seriously, Has anyone here been contacted yet? If so then you have out cooled everyone here ;)

Most dealers know their good customers and who is in the market or able to be in the market for these kinds of bikes. .. If you're interested, call your dealer, put the 20% deposit down and hopefully you'll get it.

Thank you. I've always loved Ducati. I've only ever owned two. Thought a lot about trying to pick up a desmocidci but thought of changing the rims to 17s for practicality. Maybe I'll hold out to see this one. ;)

you automatically get on the list if you own any model and purchase 75% of the available original DP accessories.

then they know you're nuts and have a right to be on that list. ;)

Dunno about the new bike coming out, but the Desmo is everything that you expect it to be. . It's loud, brash, unbridled and uncivilized. . . Got nothing but good things to say about it. ..

And yes, changing to 17's is quite easy. You have several easy choices - marchesini 17" mags, OZ, or BST carbon wheels. 17" opens you up to any of the 190/200 tires out there. ..

I have to check with my dealer to ensure they didn't misplace mine..

65k is a big payment. Thought you were stretching the budget with the 2014 Panigale 1199R with all the Ducati accessories and the hazard lights (did I mention it's a 2014?)

I think there are a lot of us here that could swing the $65K if I really had to have the bike. Of course I want it....but $65K is not chump change. I get it will be a special bike no doubt. It's just frustrating that the price tag is so high because I think they could do better. I just don't see the value in dropping that much on a bike that is going to depreciate so fast. I mean look at the F4CC 120K new and now it's a fraction of that. Plus, as vehicles go....motorcycles are high risk machines. If you use it....higher risk of dumping it vs a car.....so people dropping this much coin on a bike are, for the most part, afraid to even push it for fear of replacing parts.

I think all of us here are frustrated we bought what we considered the perfect ducati only to be snubbed by not just another newer greater bike from the competition...but by ducati themselves. I mean I expect that when a new model is due out (like the pani vs the outgoing 1198), but to be one upped by the company after just purchasing a bike is frustrating to owners. I mean it happened to the tricolore owners (all the dealers said....no r is coming), then the people who did want the best got the R, only to be trumped so soon by this newer one. Ducati should at least have the courtesy to inform people what they are intending to do and not lie or be shady about it. But, I guess if you lie about new models coming out it suckers more people into selling their 1 year old bike to buy that one....so congrats to ducati for figuring out a way to make more money off of the same person for more than just from the initial purchase.

RANT OVER....lol

I love ducati...don't get me wrong

Only if your the sort of person that must have the latest but your never going to be satisfied .
You think they could do much better and you don't even know what they are selling ? Sounds logical .
You sound like the sort of person who buys bikes for all the wrong reasons to be honest .

well thanks for your psycho analysis dr. Phil

I quite agree with Wilkson. You buy into a company because they produce a spectacular product as a result of persistently advancing and pushing the limits, then fault that company for continuing to exhibit the same characteristics that drew you to it in the first place. It all seems a bit confused to me.

Ducati has this well planned out....

release a base model....and an upscale "s"

tell people there is no better model coming out

better model comes out right away

tell people there is no better model coming out

bestest model comes out...lol

I'm not saying they shouldn't continue to push the enevelope with development....just don't ........ your customers is all. And if you are going to charge $65K that thing better not ...... leak one drop of oil, melt one fairing, or have one dash go out.

I get your point...but if everyone felt that way, no one would ever buy a bike for fear of something better coming out. Which will inevitably happen of course.

I could have put more down on my R but I decided to keep some buffer money in my bank balance to be comfortable mentally instead of stretching myself too thin.. for this limited Pani I would use a bit of my 401k money if possible to put the deposit (if I can) and use the trade in from the R to cover half the cost..

Then a 4 or 5 yr loan would kinda payout the rest so I am thinkin this through carefully..

BTW my dealer said he nominated only me which is a big deal so once I get the email, I will carefully plan out everything and then make a final decision on going ahead with the swap.. the bike may not be out till next spring (Apr-July timeframe mostly) so I can use my R till then..

Don't make it sound like the dealer loves you lool because if he did and your someone that have the pockets for a bike like this he should of gave you a heads up subliminally since this is top secret to dealers ... Instead you just bought a R and have to eat depreciation...
