Ducati Performance Upgrade

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I got the upgrade 2 days ago, did a trackday yesterday.
For street riding, you can feel a slight difference. On the track, it's a new bike!
I mostly used DTC level 2 to test the slide control. All I can say is it's really fun and it works, but I don't have the skill set to properly exploit it for lap times. Set DTC 3 for the last stint, and compared to the standard DTC it pulls HARD out of the corners. I can now consistently accelerate the bike to borderline headshake out of every corner (wrong fork springs wound too hard, too little sag).

It does not interfere with Tuneboy. Recommended upgrade!

Great feedback, thanks!

Will the update effect tuneboy or visa versa

I asked Wayne about this, this is his reply:

"I would install the STD map.
Yes you can get the update done.
When you get the bike back just run the FlashMitsubishi and take note of the map number.
If it is 00000803 then the map has not been changed (I assume you will load the 803 STD map into the ECU.
If it ends in 804 then let me know before you flash the ECU."

I haven't done it yet as it doesn't seem to be available here yet.

Cheers

As said, I got the update done, the map has not been changed. AFR values unchanged, QS timing still as set in Trim V6 Mitsubishi, Launch control still works, cruise control still works. And the new DTC and DWC works brilliant!
The specs of the update even states it is an update for the BBS unit, leaving the ECU unchanged :)

Tuneboy + Evo algorithms = <3

I finally made it to my dealership Saturday and they are going to get me a price on the update... after I had to inform them of what it was and show them online that it existed. I really like my dealer but when it comes to additional items for Ducati they are lacking.

OK sorry, I must've missed your post.

Cheers

Same for me, I had to forward the Ducati email to my dealer, he had no idea.

Cheers

I recently purchased it from my dealer, still waiting to hear back to take the bike over and get it installed. The price for the software is $565. Not sure about labor yet (which will probably vary by dealer anyways). I'll update the thread after I get it installed.

Here are a few details on the "Ducati Performance Software Package":

This is specifically for 2015-2016 Panigale 1299 and 1299S models only, and upgrades the DTC and DWC programs to the EVO version that is now standard on the 2017 models. This an ACCESSORY which can be purchased, this is not part of the regular ECU Updates that occur automatically during routine services as they become available from Ducati. The upgraded software algorithms get installed in the BBS unit on the bike, which is the ECU that sits under the seat, not the main ECU on the bike. UNLIKE most other accessories, this one gets tied directly to the VIN# of the bike it's being installed on at the time of purchase, and must installed on that VIN# bike at the dealership using the DDS system. MSRP on the accessory, part# 96580151A is $565, plus any installation costs charged by the dealer installing it. So if you want it, you need to contact your dealer and initiate the order so they can get it ordered for your VIN#.

Thank you for the info.

Not for R...too bad.

Doesn't the new 1299 SL come with it's own version of EVO SW? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the SL doesn't have the electronic adjustable Ohlins and neither does the R model. Soooooo??

Correct. It does come with a specific version for the SL. With the SL version, you are able to adjust the slide control function directly, whereas the accessory upgrade for the 1299 base or S just does it automatically and doesn't allow for fine tuning. And yes, the SL doesn't use the electronic Ohlins either...

I plan to run it on the next cota track day in mid-august. We'll see how it goes! ;)

I agrre to 100 % one of the best investments on this bike. And on the top I have longer mileage of the tires (Metzeler Racetec from 450 up to 800 km).

For the default sport mode on the street...Is the bike smoorher on the street after the update? In particuliar..is the torq and engine braking smoother at speeds under 60 mph bc it has a better way to guage rear tire slip?

Not many people has it installed so far, but still waiting for more opinion if it is worth the money.

Please keep us posted on this. And what the going rate is for your area.

Has anyone tried the route of purchasing the 2017 BBU/BBS part and installing it in a 2015-2016 1299? How can Jared be so sure this cheaper route than the software upgare won't work to get the same, or maybe even better results?

Anyway, I wanted to add in this thread this comment on mine, though I also just posted it in my IMU thread. It is a truly a GREEDY thing to do for Ducati to charge anything at all (or anything more than a very nominal fee) for a software upgrade, instead of following the visionary and customer-friendly example of Tesla. Truly a missed golden opportunity for Ducati to say thanks (at virtually no cost for it) to his passionate fans, at least the original buyers who forked $20,000+ for their new 2015 and 2016 bikes.

I agree. The cost should have been at most, $50 to$75 and a half hour's worth of labor. I'm convinced that Ducati intentionally put's on parts that are not ideal so they can sell upgrades.
