!! engine hanging loose in frame !!

Thanks for the post, Kope. To your knowledge were those bolts ever removed during the life of the bike?

Mark--Jesus Christ. Screws fall out all the time on all kinds of bikes, airplanes, autos, trains and space ships and yes, even sometimes on doors in Saturday school. When they do it's 99.99% of the time the fault of the person who last torqued (or didn't) torque down the fastener.

Damn right.
Another outstanding response:)

You should see the list of bolts and screws(some critical) that back out of BMW's across all their models of bikes.
That includes their bikes with an I4 engine.
Not to mention the very nasty things that you won't necessarily hear about in the internet forums;)

my personal bolts are torqued and have blue all over them. i had the unfortunate circumstances of loosing a few important bolts. i hope the soul doesnt unscrew the bolts or the heat loosen the blue

You've got to watch that.
Loctite starts to break it's bond at about 80 degrees C.
With the grossly excessive/ridiculous heat these things generate, it's not unrealistic to expect the bike to fly to bits between your legs the first time you ride it down the road after applying the Loctite.

I still think I would rather have a Vespa than a BMW though.
At least I would still retain some street credibility with the Vespa.

Then you need this:

Loctite® 2422? Threadlocker - Henkel

There is a red high strength version as well but this is cited as a permanent solution, which for the monocoque/airbox nuts, might not seem overkill, given it will rarely need removing

Seems like there's three possible outcomes--A) sucking a bolt into the engine B) having the bike fold in half or C) finding it before A or B. You got lucky for sure.

The tank takes about 5 min. to pull and doesn't require removal of the fairings (just the seat and the front key facade plastic), I'd think this would be something Ducati would check at the 600 mile service interval. Looks like perhaps you got one of the 1199s that was finished on a Friday.

I'd be interested in finding out if you notice a big difference in at-the-limit handling once torqued on properly--and if any of the other engine bolts are loose.

Mark, is your bike still for sale ?

NOLA

I will no longer state my problems with this bike because it aggravates me. If someone asks me how i handled it or the outcome i will answer the best i can. My bike is away for the winter. fresh oil and as of now no problems. If i get the oil like that may be the last straw but NO MORE COMPLAINING IT BRINGS ME DOWN.

Old habits die hard.

Better luck next time.

Mark, it's obvious why you like Stoner so much. You don't seem to realize how much whining you are doing. Give it a break. It's okay to bring thing up, but please stop whining.

Regarding the OP, thanks for bringing this to our attention. May wan to consider a better or more accurate title.

denial is more than a river in egypt.

Indeed it is...

The Nile is an international river as its water resources are shared by eleven countries, namely, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt.....:p

I was being sarcastic.

In the future I will put a little "<-----S" next to it to indicate sarcasm. It makes it easier for the slow ones, who need a little extra help, to notice the intricacies of common English.

It will look like this :

Mark, from NY, is one of the most laid back, non complaining, Ducati loving people I have seen <-----S.

Your the one that said you got ridiculed not me . I was just pointing out why .
Can you see where or would you like me to steer you in that direction ?

As an engineer that has designed bolted joints in my career for applications ranging from cars, to jet engines, to motorcycles... I personally think Mark has a right to complain. I've been on the other side of it, and there is no excuse for this many loose bolts if a) the engineer designs the bolted joint correctly given all reasonable load cases, and b) the assembly quality control is what it should be.

Either a or b is missing at Ducati, and if I was an engineer there... I'd be a bit embarrased. We know how to make bolts stay in parts during shake table tests under incredibly high vibration loads... there's no excuse.

No one is disputing that . You only need to complain once .

After that address the problem and move on .

Bolts will come loose . These ones should not I think everyone agrees with that .
