in case somebody is wondering:

The purpose of the black (set-) screw in the bottom inside the drain plug is to hold the magnet in place. it actually has to be removable, to allow you getting it out for cleaning during the oil change.

The holding force onto that little set screw is sufficient for keeping it there, however, when exposed to a lager metal object (like the fridge) that force is higher and allows the magnet to get pulled out.

The reason why you don't see that in production oil drain bolts is cost - its easier to take a drain bolt and glue a magnet in there.

with my design, the setscrew has its own thread inside, the set screw is ground off, thread locked in place and then the magnet is inserted.

I haven't actually tested this long term i admit, but in terms of temperatures and holding forces, you will not get it out when it's installed in the drain hole. Not even if you drop the bike off a cliff.

Thanks,

Phil

So you don't touch the set screw? Just use something to pull the magnet out when doing a change?

Correct! The setscrew is actually thread-locked in place, with the ground off surface facing the magnet.

The magnet can be pulled with anything that has more surface area than a ground off setscrew ;)

Money sent. Thank you very much. Please let me know when you ship my item.

Got mine today, thanks! It's beautiful! I went to replace it, and now there is oil covering my garage floor. :D

i have something for that in the pipeline as well. but that will come out after my next mexico trip.

i you should have laid the bike on its side. or frozen the engine...

No, I was kidding :) I was thinking upside down would be the safest way. I haven't replaced it yet, I will do it when I change my oil.

All are shipped... so into should only be a matter of days.

Thanks for the trust and support. I hope everyone enjoys the special items.

More to come, as mentioned. (Sorry Gecko - no titanium, well, actually... maybe...)
