ANTOTHER PSA: (unfortunately)

endodoc has reported back to me that for his 1299 oil pan the threads on the bolt were 2mm too long to make the washer sit flush and seal. when i designed the bolt, i counted the threads on the original, in order to provide the same interference. right now i cannot explain this unless that i had the wrong bolt to start out with.

i will check this asap when i return and will provide everyone with the same issue a solution for this. i have already changed the drawing and am currently checking with the supplier to a rerun.

i am very sorry guys...

Thank you Phl and EndoDoc!
Would it be okay to shorten the bolt and having the magnet standing out a bit longer? If yes, I would provide for free this shortening "service" on my lathe for the Europe area. Just to reduce shipment costs.

I am in Mexico for work right now but will be back Friday!

Bolts can be shortened, there is plenty of length ... won't affect the magnet or its holding.

I will most likely get you the shorter bolts and a packing slip with a return envelope for the too long bolts.

To clarify is it too long for the Kraaitech relocation plug or the stock oil pan? I will confirm it is too long for the Kraaitech....

Ok, I am tracing this error and as it looks like right now you will all receive the shorter bolt from me asap, all you'd need to do is swap the magnet.

I can't explain how it slipped through... guess I will have to up my Q-control.

Sorry guys...:(

Ok, mistake happened during design, it's purely my fault. The plug should have 16mm length, my drawing shows 18mm

Pissed. I will rework remaining parts as ship out replacements ASAP.

Ok What I will do is : 1. Shorten the bolts I have here and install the setscrew
2. Ship them to you and add a return envelope to the package
3. You remove the magnet from your bolt and put it in the short new one
4. You throw the old longer bolt in the envelope and put it in your mailbox to return it to me

Will that work?

Well, stupid me...

HeronB- I will send you another set out and whatever happens with the original shipment- we will see.
Looks like yours is the only one that went missing. Which is strange, because it went out with another box that made it to its destination...

Phl I don't mind if you take care of the racers first like Smokedu. Their seasons have or are starting real soon.

That's a bummer that this happened. Thanks for helping us out Phl. I also agree with helping the racers out first.

Hey Guys. Sorry I had to be the bad Santa. Bike 1 is apart so often that I figured I might be one of the first to try it. Here are 2 shots of a 1299 drain plug. I tossed mine long ago so I pulled these less than optimal examples from the web. You can see that the threads are quite a bit shorter than the new Ti part but the overall length is probably the same (bolt head to magnet tip) however the threads inside the pan end before the new part is seated. I'm not sure cutting down the plug will work as it looks like there is about 5 mm of "seat" for the magnet and your going to need to take 3-4 off that to seat the crush washer correctly. That does not leave much holding the magnet in place. you would have to machine the magnet slot into the bolt another 3mm which it looks like you can do which would put the magnet right on top of the little internal magnet. I can throw one in the lathe tonight and take off enough to seat the crush washer and measure it.
