^WA, maybe that's it. On the 1199, marc.parnes is not mounted all that close to the rider and although it can be seen from pretty extreme angles (up/down/left/right), perhaps a second row of LEDs will increase the brightness to the extent you see reflections off the bike/helmet regardless. Let me know what you find out, I may have to order another one before I send back my single-row for rework.

Well I can testify to the fact hat he's responsive, ordered yesterday and recieved notification would ship tomorrow and emailed him after answering the posts above and he's confirmed the two rows and processed payment by PayPal. Clearly he's a one-man-band and I'm pleased because you're dealing with the inventor who's passionate about his product.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I will make sure to post when they get here.

JjsC6 and kensteele - great feedback on Visual Alert, I just modified my order for the Marc Parnes to a double row of LED lights (10), in the hope that sheer brightness will be hard to miss even if slightly out of line of site because of the glow. Won't be riding at night so shouldn't be a problem.

Trauma - I would ove to find a way to have plugs and an wireless audio signal. I'm going to experiment with some military style earplugs that allow for an audio insert.

Elitesoldier357 - love the height and rear visibility your mount gives the unit but no way could I ride with wires hanging off me, and I'm not a fan of backpacks either.

Thanks

Yes. It is somewhat temporary. That's why I would like to look into having an LED HUD in my helmet. I am trying to figure out different ways to mount so I can conceal but still be effective. The way I have it now, everyone asks me, "What is that on your shoulder?" Including officers. I say, "A camera" :D They don't even think twice because they have never seen someone mount it like this. Plus I don't have to worry about someone stealing it because it disconnects as soon as I walk away from the bike. I carry a backpack all the time, yes people make fun of it sometimes... but when someone buys stuff and forgets that they rode a bike that day, who are they asking to carry it? This guy! I do a lot of riding. I always have a tendency to not plan on being out long sometimes, then it turns out to be a half day event. Always important to have my rain gear, clear visor, radar, some tools, camera, and whatever else with me.

Here's my former setup. A wireless Passport velcroed to my helmet with a single earbud running 10" into my helmet.

IMG_0064.jpg

Plusses: inexpensive, convenient, portable, no messy wires, stellar battery life, great line of site front and back, easy to control volume with gloved fingers while riding.

Minuses: wind fatigue from the extra surface area on helmet, range.

It's saved me from a few tickets, so it definitely does its job, but you won't get the 1.5 mile warnings you get with a high-end hard-wired unit.

I'd love to have my V1, but I honestly would never see it--and if i did it would be because I was staring down instead of watching where I was going (while speeding--bad combo).

You forgot to add this compliments the look of any helmet! :)

Gotta love Antihero!

I think either way it is good to have some defense and while I had a custom LED indicator installed for my Escort system, there is simply no beating the audio alerts. Given the amount of speed, cornering, etc. I seldom actually look down and the audio alerts have save many, many times.

Share pics when you get your set up.........

Cheers!

Yea, i'm sure. I still have an old Passport from way back that is a lot smaller and runs on a 9v battery. Could actually fit in my front jacket pocket :)

Built in radar

I built my radar into my dash of my 1098. I unsoldered the display and extended it ti a visible area. I later built one into a helmet but it was stolen....
This time I am going to relay a flash system via bluetooth to my visor:D

All of this is moot mind you if the detector doesn't work. Just been out with the V1 to see if I could find some radar traps to test it with and I found a couple of rear facing cameras hiding in vans and a police car. I had the V1 mounted centrally at the top of my screen using the suction cup mount.

I'm pretty underwhelmed by the performance vs the rear facing cameras, which are the biggest threat to my license. Basically they didn't trigger the V1 until I was directly in front of them when riding past, and coming toward them the V1 only picked them up about 80-100 metres away which is barely enough time to scrub off speed as they operate from 75metres. These cameras have started popping up all over the state, including several popular country routes so this is a big drawback.

It works better with police car radar with plenty of time to slow (assuming the car isn't too slick and doesn't light you up at the last minute which has happened to me before). Also the police cars use K band which is too annoying to have on in urban areas because of all the false signals so I keep it off, only enabling when heading out of town.

So unless a better mount solves the issue (doubtful) its really just a nice to have that "might" save my license if the cops are lazy and leave their radar on or the placement of the camera makes it easier to detect. At least the Bluetooth kit I've ordered has dual purpose!

Please remember that radar in use is different the world over so this is just experience from Western Australia. I'll keep testing but I won't trouble you with the results beyond whether the alert system works. If you are in Western Australia PM me if you want any more info.

i must say after all this research i went with what trauma did. i got the cobra radar detector. he said its 120 but that one is compatible with iphone and android. i went with just the iphone one. it was 79 bucks. bluetooths to my iphone which i leave in my pocket. i always listen to music my headphones are custom to my ears. so no problem getting helmet on and if i dont listen to music they are earplugs. (ultimate ears if you want to look them up.) the music is low and i tested the detector.
i hate beeps so i set it to tone. music on went to an area where they have a your speed posted. as i was listening to the music the music lowered and i heard x band through my headphones. worked perfectly. here is the set up courtesy of trauma. much thanks buddy .

I like how you have the unit below the nose of the bike - how have you secured that in place? Is it removable easily?

Thanks i foind it, must have missed. I'd be very nervous about Velcro being the only means of securing it.

Anyway I think I'm gonna go with the ram mounts on the bars and put the laser interceptor unit there.

I used lotsa velcro, covered the whole thing. You could always secure the power cord in case it came off.

+1 I can confirm that lots of good velcro on the entire flat side of a medium to large rd will stay secure even on the 1199. :D

i dont know what you mean adaptive cruise control false alarms. can you explain. if you go to lowes they have industrial strength velcro its not going anywhere. but i also have a mount so i could do that as well yes more velcro.

OK Velcro it is, will make fitting the laser kit easier anyway. Have ordered a decent mount for the V1 because if I mount it below the nose I assume I'll lose any use of the rear sensor on the V1 and all the visual alerts. Hoping the LI alerts will take care of most things anyway as almost all our mobile radar units are now laser Poliscans not radar units.

(In Western Australia most cameras are tripod based gear either hidden at the side of the road or in vans and 4x4. They shoot across 6 lanes of traffic and are mostly orientated to catch you speeding from the rear unlike the old forward facing Ka band radar multinovas which couldn't catch bikes. Too many riders were photographed wheelieing past these cameras 'flipping the bird' that they were forced to come up with a solution)

Adaptive cruise controls are on several new cars, especially highend. It adjusts your cruise control based on cars in front or behind you using radar. If I am in traffic with one, my Valentine shows 2-3 radars, both in front and behind.

ahh i have that never used it come to think of it i never use cruise at all. good to know my radar in my car will be beeping like crazy. trauma where did you get your Velcro from. i got mine from lowes very industrial strength but i want more coverage like what you cut for yourself.
