So, here's where I'm at at the end of Saturday. What all I've done since the last update:

Finally settled the rear tank mount. Earlier in this thread I talked about how the 1199 and 899 rear subframes are just a bit different and so are the tanks in the way they mount to the subframe. So, it took some engineering but I was able to design a bracket, and 3D print it from some of the "strong" filament. I had to cut away some aluminum from the subframe to keep the OEM bracket from hitting it. Take a look: The first pic is the bracket being fitted, and you can see I've marked out where I need to remove material. The second pic it is all finished.

I've also managed to replace the spark plugs. Glad I did as these were certainly the original plugs. Has anyone seen a green electrode before? I grew up building and running Top Alcohol Dragsters and learned how to "read" plugs from the best,... but this one is new.

I am pretty sure its oxidation of the alloy as a result of high temps. Just wandering if any of you have seen the same thing.

Oh, and what a ..... it was trying to get the "thin-wall" 14mm socket to go into the head cover. I purchased a new socket thinking it would be more of a thin-wall than my old one.... I was wrong.

So, I took the brand new socket to my lathe, took .040" off and now it works perfect!! Doesn't look pretty, but it works! lol

Also as you can see, I've mounted the radiators and started on the exhaust. Headers and "Y" pipe are on. Removed the DB killers from the cans and am waiting for my belly pan and fairings to get here before mounting them up.

So, I do have to ask any of you who have woodcraft clipons and are using the woodcraft steering damper bracket if you would mind posting pics so I can see how yours are configured. For some reason the way mine is configured its all out of whack. The damper is crooked as hell, and I cant turn the bars fully to the left before the damper hits the woodcraft bracket.

Any help or images of how yours are set up would be greatly appreciated. Here's a few images of mine how it is currently so you can see what I'm dealing with.

JarHead,

First, thank you for documenting, notes, and photos.

I wish I was 10% as talented as you are. lol. Great thread. love it.

Now that I moved to VA, you are not too far away from me. I will need to drop my bike off to you for major works. lol.

Anytime buddy. I certainly wouldn't say talented though. Lol. My fiancé would probably prefer "not talented with money". Haha.

But seriously, I just love tinkering, and fortunately I grew up building race cars and street rods. This is the first motorcycle I've built from scratch, but seems pretty cut and dry.

Looks good mate, good to follow a build thread that makes progress nearly every day, i like to tinker too and i am envious of your project, just wondering what you expect it to tip the scales at?
cheers.

The factory 899 has a wet weight of around 425, so I'm hoping to come in at 385-390 wet. I figure between the wheels, magnesium pieces, the 1199 rear subframe, exhaust, no lights, some titanium pieces here and there and carbon fiber fairings I shouldn't have a problem hitting that number.

The good thing is that with the progress I've been making I'll have a definite answer before March 16th! :)

You should be able to do that, mine was 358 lbs. without fuel, with heavier wheels than you have (Carrozzeria). If you got rid of that stock subframe and replaced with a Motoholders it would be another several pounds. ;)

Thanks mate. I can't wait for this thing to be tuned. It'll be a blast!

So everyone knows there won't be any updates for a few days as my fiance and I are taking a long weekend vacation to Boston. However, by the time we get back there should be some nice packages at the door! And then it's crunch time to get it running before the 16th to get up to BrenTuning.

Sssooooooo..... remember when I said "budget"????

Well.... these came today... I'm a little off budget...

Loving this build... I love tinkering as well, I just don't have the skill to match up with the desire... :p Good luck! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Could you please share a pic of the bracket you made to mount the 1199 sub frame to the 899 tank? This is something I would like to do as well.
